New ram installed, but computer screen doesnt work

Hi all, i have been working on installing the 2nd lot of ram into the 2nd slot on my laptop, (under the keyboard). No trouble inserting it, but when i put everythign together and turned comp on. nothign would display on the screen. I switched ram,, and still the same. So it's not the ram, it's just appears to be the ram in that slot.. I have the original ram in there atm (516mb, or something).. Anyone help me out?

cheers

I installed a new 1gb ram into the 2nd slot but when i turned the laptop on i get a black screen

Its probably that the new ram you added is not compatible with the one you already have. Check to see if both brands are the same. Also check if the ram works fine after you remove the older one and vice versa. If both of the RAMS work fine when installed individually, then they both are not compatible with each other.

Did you remove the "old" RAM, or did you add the "new" RAM to the old RAM?

Try using your computer with ONLY the "new" RAM installed.

The new RAM module could be faulty or the second memory slot is faulty.
Try removing the original 1Gb memory module and inserting the new memory module in its place to see if the computer boots up normally. If it doesn't then then new memory module is faulty.

Laptop doesn't recognize new ram

I would guess that you need PC 133. Some manufactures that were using SDram at the time required PC133 while others would require but allow you to use PC100.

This is the requirement for your laptop from www.crucial.com

Each memory slot can hold SDRAM, PC133 with a maximum of 256MB per slot.*

Hope this helps

I have 2 x 2gb ram, and can't find 2nd slot for one of them

Hi,

if you only have 1 slot, on the underside of the laptop.
it,s most likely, if there are any more slots, they,ll be under the Keyboard.
This will possibly be, where the 512 mb is now, although some laptops do have on-board memory chips from 256-512mb. ( try under the Keyboard )

It will support up to 4 gbs of ram but they both have to be low density, the unit can not go more then 2gb with high density ram.
