PS2 turns on fine when disk tray is open but the reset button turns red from green and stops working
I cleaned my station with an electronic cleaning agenton the exterior of the ps2. I tried cleaning the fan by turing the station on and srpaying it. However, my cleaning agent stopped working and i used a milti purpose windex. The station was fine until I added a game and turned it on. The reset button went from green to red and the system stopped working. I tried putting a fan on it to try and dry the windex with no luck. What now?

Here's a pretty good guess what happened...
All of the Windex products are mostly water. You probably got some of the Windex onto the board of the PS2. Now this isn't a problem until it is energized. Once you turned it on, the windex which is mostly water probably shorted out your board instantly. There are a few things you can try though.
Open up your console and try to dry the area with a hair dryer. After it appears dry, check to see it there is any corrosion anywhere you see metal. If there is, clean those areas with a q-tip and isoproply alcohol. Then you will want to let the parts air dry. Repeatedly hitting it with the hair dryer can shrink wires inside the system and can cause them not to function.
See if that fixes the problem. If not, you may need to prepare your PS2 for a proper burial.
And next time you need to clean the fan, use some sort of vacuum to suck the junk out from the back.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Remember to keep your PS2 in Dust free environment if you don't want your PS2 lens to get dirty. If your PS2 can not play certain games like Rock band try this tip:
Turn on your PS2 without inserting any disc.
Menu screen will appear like:
Press the (triangle) Button to enter Version Information Menu that looks like
Highlight the Play Station Driver as above and again press (triangle).
New screen will appear like
Highlight the Disc Speed as above and press button,to enter Disc Speed Menu
And set it from Standard to "Fast".
After you set Disc Speed to Fast, Press and Hold Reset Button to turn off your console.
Then again Press and Hold Reset Button till the Blue Light turns on.
Your PS2 is probably experiencing a short circuit on the motherboard or the Emotion Engine is burned up. Sometimes the fan goes dead and the PS2 overheats and shuts down showing the red light. You can open the PS2 and clean up the motherboard and maybe it will recover.
if the ribbon cable that goes to the lens came out its gota go back it. has a plastic tab on the top that lifts up and down to lock it in place.... If its the eject/reset button the ribbon might not be in all the way
it might be that ur lens is just dirty and might need cleaning the best way to do that is to take the top cover off ur ps2 be carefull not to rip or tare the cable for the power/open-close buttons take the top off the disk tray get a q-tip and clean the lens that always works for me and if u dont wanna take ur ps2 apart u can always take it to a service center
This has happened to me before. You will have to open the PS2 and clean the laser which is under the tray(or on top i forgot).
Use a cotton bud to clean it but be extreamaly careful cause if you put to much pressure on the laser your PS2 is gone for good!
The jumper between the buttons and motherboard may be disconected. Open up your ps2, see if there is a blue /white ribbon cable that is unpluged. If you have already opened your ps2 rrior to this, thr case map be jamming the button.
