The TV and Cable box both continue to shut down; Please Help!!!

Hi, I am hoping you will be able to add some relief to a frustrating problem. My husband and I have a Daewoo t.v. and recently got digital cable. Now, before we added the cable the t.v. was hooked to our vcr and dvd player and we had no problems. The t.v. would stay on and it was not at the time connected to any type of surge protecter just our wall outlet. So we then decided to get the cable added. It was installed and that's when the problems begin to happen. Do you think it's the t.V., the cable or both? When the t.v. is on it will remain on for a time and then this electrical static noise comes on and the picture starts warping and fuzzing out until the t.v. and the cable goes out. It does turn back on once we click on and off the surge protector. After this was happening for a time we took these intial steps: 1. We returned the cable box for a brand new one. 2. We bought a surgeprotector for Satellite/Home Theatre use 3. When the t.v. and cable goes out the lamps stay on they are not affected. They are also hooked into the surge protector.

Thanks Mike for your suggestion. First let me answer your questions, and then I'll tell you the results. 1. The t.v. shuts off and the cable box resets itself and stays on. 2. The the t.v. was originally plugged into the cable box. So this is what we tried: A. We to the t.v chord and unplugged it from the cable box into the outlet wall: Result. The t.v. continued to shut down. B. We kept the t.v. plugged directly into the outlet wall, unplugged the coaxial cable attached to it, to see what would happen. Result: The t.v. shut down. Therefore showing the t.v. (over 10 years old) had the problem.

So your suggestion showed that it was the t.v. that is defective. Thanks again. As we speak my husband just walked in with a new t.v. :)

Do you mean that the TV shuts off and the cable box also shuts off? Is the TV plugged into the back of the cable box? This sounds to me as if the cable box is defective and the TV is plugged into the cable box instead of the power strip. To prove whether or not the cable box is defective, plug the cable directly into the TV, plug the TV directly into the wall outlet and watch one of the lower channels. If the TV acts up and shuts off, have the TV serviced. If the TV plays fine, replace the cable box.

Will not find digital tv stations

I'll be glad to assist you in locating the digital channels in the TV.
Make sure that the Cable or Antenna Input is connected to the TV. The Cable and Antenna input can be connected to the VHF/UHF Input on the TV. The TV can search for the channels only if the VHF/UHF/CABLE input is connected to the TV. If you're connecting the Cable box or the Satellite Receiver to the Video or HDMI inputs on the TV, then it is not require to auto program the TV. Here, the auto program may be required in the cable box.
To Auto Program the TV, select the Manual Channel Search option from the Menu option and then select the CABLE, AIR or Digital Add-On option depends on the connection. The Digital Add-On option adds any new digital channels that are found to the Channel Scan Database.
This should resolve the issue. Please feel free to get back to us for further assistance.

Waiting on a remote(since we purchased TV in DECEMBER!) Missing from box!! Stuck on home mode or store mode - soooo frustrating with no remote!!

HI, it is possible to operate most of any flat screen t.v.'s function using buttons on t.v. These are marked as follows: + and - are for volume and when in the menu for either moving up/down or to the left and right, the < and > are to change the Channels ( also used in menu mode to scroll either up and down or to the left and right ), then you should have a button marked INPUT, maybe A/V this switches between your sources ( the t.v.'s tuner,cable,sat,p.c. input, dvd, aux, hdmi, and so forth, then you have a power button and last but not least the MENU button to adjust it. also if you have a remote for a cable/satellite box with a manual it may be able to operate an APEX( pretty common actually ) if no manual for said remote-cable/satellites customer service have been know to help quite readily. I hope this has been of some help, good luck, Prodzilla

Vcr tape doesn't show on screen when playing

Hi there,

If the picture from the DVD shows on the screen, but the pictire from the VCR does not, it is most likely because you are using sockets on the back of the player that are exclusively for the output from the DVD.

Please review your connections in relation to the diagram below. If the cables from the player to the TV are only in the red box, you will not get any picture from the VCR. You will need to move the connections to the sockets in the green box or add a separate connection for the VCR using the sockets in the green box. Whether or not this is possible depends on what input sockets are available on your TV.

You will notice the heading above the red box says "DVD". This means the connections in this section can only be used for DVD. The heading above the green box says "DVD/VCR" meaning the connections here can be used for both.

There are a fews ways to set this up. To get the best picture quality from DVD, you should continue using any connections you may have in the red box and add another cable from the green box to the TV for the VCR. You will also need to select different INPUTS on the TV depending on whether you want to watch DVD or VCR if you are using 2 cables.

I suspect this will be the cause of your problem. If you need any further explanation or assistance, please reply to me by clicking on "Add a Comment" below your question. If you would like me to draw a connection diagram between the DVD/VCR and your TV, please let me know the brand and model number of your TV.

Hope this helps.

Hi there! I have a 19" Beko Tv about 4 years old. The sound has gone altogether. Picture good though. We have it attached to a freeview top box. Husband saying its the topbox that's faulty. ...

I assume that you have attached it via SCART cable...since SCART plugs have 21 pins, and carry video, audio and switching signals ,sometimes a bad connection on either TV side or Top Box side ,the sound goes off first..Make sure your SCART plugs securely fit to either side.
If it does not help pls visit the URL below for further advise before going to blame the Top Box....
Hope this helps! Take care and please Remember to rate/vote and give me

Hello, I have an RCA Truflat tv that I bought

If you can hear sound and the sound coems from your TV, try changing the volume with teh TV remote control. Your TV isn't off it is still on. Just the video board or portion is cutting out. this could be a ton of things, I would try changing out the power strip or plugging the tv into the wall directly to make sure it has enough power. other then that you can try a home brew solution like putting a fan next to your tv to cool the component that seems to be overheating and shutting down your picture.
