Question about Brother LS-1217 Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

Ls1217 Brother I have had this machine for about five years. I let someone borrow it for a year and now it seems to have a stitching malfunction. The stitches seem to be loose on one side with small "knots" and on the other side it appears to be very loose and uneven. I try all different tension levels and stitch sizes. It is all the same. I know that it is threaded properly and the bobbin is loaded correctly. It has never given me this much of a problem. Could it be the foot or perhaps needs oil? Or does it sound like it is dying! Please help!!!

It sounds like you may have uneven tension between the bobbin thread and the upper thread. You can adjust the tension via a screw on the bobbin case. Turn it clockwise to tighten the bobbin thread tension and counter clockwise to reduce it. It's also worth remembering to check the tension on the presser foot for the material you are using. Check also that the shuttle race is clear of lint etc. Hope this helps

I have used my machine for over five years, never had a problem until today, the arm wheel at the side is suddenly stiff to turn and its not sewing a zig zag I was doing.

Try unpluging it from the power. It may need to resent . Try a basic straght stitch and see what happens. Then go back to your Ziz zag stitch.

I'd contact Brother. No guarantees they can fix it over the phone, but I've dealt with them for years and their service has always been topnotch. If they can possibly help you over the phone, they will.

according to the diagram in the manual, the upper thread tension is set by the wheel/knob on top and just to the right of the thread take up lever and thread guide. If you don't have a manual, go to www.brother-usa.com they have a downloadable manual for your machine.

Timing problem

needle cusp and hook have to work simultaneously in order to form a stitch, when needle is going up hook is coming past the needle cusp to lock the stitch, make sure that is happening first
