It could be a main board, but it could be a backlight problem. To verify this, turn on the set, dim the lights in the room, shine a bright flashlight on the screen. If you see a faint picture, you have a backlight problem.

turned on tv and the sound works but no picture took it to repair man he siad main board was bad he said it would cost more to fix than its worth is that right or is he tring to get one over on me? can i fix this my self if so any advice on where to but or find parts and what does the part look like thanks
