What type and size memory card? The EX-Z50 works with MMC and SD cards. While higher-capacity SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work.

Try formatting the card on your pc, connect the card to a card reader, open my computer find the card, right click format, try standard fat first and format. if that doesn't work try Fat 32.

Will pictures remain sharp when a smart card is reused several times?

No. images are stored digitally, so a one bit remains a one, while a zero remains a zero. The card will wear out eventually, after hundreds of thousands of write cycles, but that's after decades of normal use.
More importantly, you want to format the card regularly, like after each time you download pictures to a computer. If you simply delete the pictures each time, you're all but guaranteed to have a file system error eventually. Formatting avoids this.

Memory Card Error

Memory cards can often become corrupt or even fail without warning due to any multitude of reasons. For example, if your camera was to shut down whilst writing to the card it could corrupt the data on it. Ideally, this shouldnt happen but a defective battery or even aftermarket batteries may fail to alert the camera of its low state and then results in sudden loss of data. Also, it is important that any new cards purchased for a camera are formatted in the camera when first inserted. If your card has become corrupt, it may pay to invest in a qaulity brand memory card reader like Sandisk or Lexar as they often come with image recovery software which will aid you in retreiving images, providing you havent taken new pictures over the top of the old ones of course. Any good photo or computer store should be able to point you in the right direction. If the card in question continues to give you trouble, it may be time to invest in a new good qaulity card. Losing images for the sake of a few dollars savings on a cheap card is not really worth it. Regards...

New 2 gig XD care will not format

Hi Bill...... It won't take a 2gb card. In fact I have a feeling that it may not even take a 1gb card. I have mine as a back-up camera these days. It will not support Panasonic either. Sorry..from experience.

Oh.... a quick tip... the Camedia software is not too hot, and you have to pay for the update to give you the email connection.

Problem with 'write error' on memory card

Make sure you got a card that is compatible to your camera. In my case, I bought a new 512mb Fuji XD card to get the same "write error" message. I needed a type "H" but bought "M". I had to go to www.fujifilmusa.com to upgrade my camera to be compatible with the newer cards that are out now.
