I am looking to restore my computer back to factory settings and cannot find how to do it. I do not have a restore cd. I have an Acer Aspire M5100 desktop computer that is a little over 1 year old which was purchased from Best Buy. I find it interesting that the only Acer 5100 computer I can find information about is a notebook/laptop. MIne is definitely a desktop computer.
If you cannot tell me how to restore from my computer can you please tell me how to purchase a restore cd.
Computer will only run in safe mode at this point and i cannot get online. Please help a.s.a.p

Have you considered "just" doing the system restore and setting it back to the point of time when everything was working properly? (In this case the path is " Start - Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System Restore).

Hi! Try system restore first and check if that will remove the virus but if not then you can reset the machine to factory defaults by pressing ALT+F10 during start up or when the acer logo appears on your screen.Follow the prompts and you should be able to reset the computer to factory image.Make sure you back up important files because it will wipe the system clean.hope this helps...
You have 2 options to restore your Acer to factory defaults :
A)
Hit the Delete key when you see the ACER logo. This will bring you to the set up screen.
Scroll until you find the "Load Default Settings" option, then hit Enter.
A screen will pop up to confirm that this is what you want to do. type Y and hit Enter again.
Make sure to save the changes.
B)

Hi Byteguy, I believe I can help but I need more information, I believe you're looking for the SATA Controller driver, you probably won't find these from Acer. Does your computer have an Intel or ATI chipset? You'll likely find the driver from one of them.
1 Ensure all Data is backed up, all data will be deleted. 2 Restart machine 3 When your unit switches back on hold down alt & tap f10 repeatedly...(on Acer icon) 4 Please wait a moment until prompted, -How would you like to restore?- 5 Please select –Restore system to factory default- 6 Enter your defined password or enter six zeros ‘000000’ 7 Click ok 8 Please wait until process completed, this will take 45min – 1hour
