Question about Epson TM-L90
It sounds as if the port is trying to operate a mouse - giving the ???????. If you have windows XP then go to control panel, printers and faxes, then click "add a printer". The add printer wizard starts up, click next. select the "local printer" option and make sure the "automatically detect and install....etc" option is turned off. Click next and you should be able to select printer port. If you are using the serial port COM 1 (usually the only one externally on the pc), then select it from the list and follow the wizard through to the end. Restart the PC and you should hopefully find that the port has become dedicated to the printer alone. if still problems, go to device manager, right click on the COM 1 port and select properties, it should allow you to start the troubleshooter for the port. This should help. Other operating systems will have a similar procedure. Also worth trying is to uninstall the epson drivers, restart, plug the printer in and turn it on, and see if windows will automatically install the printer without the epson drivers. If it will, then let it do it's stuff and hopefully it will work. Hope this helps :)

Have been looking through the manual (sorry no link to it - you have to register with epson as a service contractor to get it). There is no reset as such, but there is a list of DIP switch positions;
switch 1-1
Power switch function
on=Disabled
off=Enabled
1-2
Interface condition selection
on=by DIP switch
off=by memory switch
1-3
Handshaking
on=XON/XOFF
off=DTR/DSR
1-4
Data word length
on=7 bits
off=8 bits
1-5
Parity check
on=Enabled
off=Disabled
1-6
Parity selection
on=Even
off=Odd
1-7 and
1-8 (in order)
Transmission speed
on/on=2400bits per second
off/on=4800bps
on/off=9600bps
off/off=19200bps
switch 2-1
Reserved
Fixed to Off.
If 1-2 to 1-8 are all set to off, then the printer is set up for parallel printing which could conceivably be the problem.
Try one at a time in a different position and see what you get. It is slightly unclear on the location of these DIP switches, but i believe you get to them through the base - just pull the end with the cable holes away from the printer and it should snap out (probably worth checking in the top first in case they are obvious)
If you need more help with this then please ask again - I will keep hold of the manual until i hear back from you, there is little else of much use in it, and nothing that sheds any other light on the problem - I think the DIP settings should help, just make sure you write down what they are set at before changing anything.
Hope this helps :)

Hi,
Thanks for the response.
I have a new problem now, everytime I turn on the printer it prints out continuious pages of ?????????? and it doesn't stop.
I have tried turning the power supply off and taking out the serial port to the PC, and even uninstalling all the drivers/software.
Is there another way of reseting this printer?
Thanks,
Pete
