I receive an error F4 on my scanner when I turn it on. Will not scan. Any suggestions?

Hello Larry,

The F-4 error in Fujitsu fi-6240 scanner indicates Background change over unit malfunction alarm. It may be caused by the malfunction of background motor or optical unit or damaged optical cable.

You are recommended to contact the nearest Fujitsu scanner service center for rectification.

Backside Optical alarm (G) when using Duplex option

Hi Rasha,

ADF backside scanning optical alarm (upper optical unit ADF) is E3 alarm. When there is an irregularity in the amount of light (ADF back), "E" and "3" will be displayed alternately on the function number display panel of the scanner.

Please check the followings:

1.Does the same symptom occur after turning OFF and ON the scanner?
2. Is the lower glass (white sheet guide) of the reading section dirty? Open the ADF, and clean the sheet guide (white part) and the glass.
3. Is the upper Optical unit ADF dirty? Are the cables damaged? Are the connectors connected properly?
4.E3: Is the upper lamp ON? Are the cables damaged? Are the connectors connected properly? Disconnect the SCSI cable and turn the scanner ON. Open the ADF and press ADF cover open sensor as shown below to see if the ADF lamps light which has to be replaced.

I would recommend to contact an authorized FUJITSU scanner service provider or the dealer where you purchased the scanner.

Hope the above information is helpful.

Thanks & regards,

Anomaly in the light intensity of ADF front side. Fujitsu 5750c s

Hi,

This error code denotes ADF front side scanning optical alarm (lower optical unit ADF) which indicates ADF (front) lamp intensity check. Please follow the steps provided below:

1. Is the upper glass (white sheet guide)of the reading section dirty?

Open the ADF, and clean the sheet guide (white part) and the glass.

# When operating the scanner, the ADF’s inside glass becomes very hot. Take serious caution as the heat can cause burns. Before you clean the inside of the scanner, turn off its power and unplug the AC adapter from the outlet and wait (at least three minutes) until it gets cold.Be careful not to pinch your fingers when the ADF cover is being closed.
Note: Cleaning should be done approximately every 10,000 sheets scanned, though it may vary depending on types of
documents scanned. More frequent cleaning is necessary when the following types of documents are scanned:
- Smooth surface document such as coated paper
- Documents printed on almost entire surface
- Documents processed with chemical materials such as carbonless paper
- Paper with a high calcium content
- Pages with pencil lead
- Document where toner is not fused sufficiently.

If the above does not help, then the issue is caused by any of the followings for which you may have to contact the Fujitsu Expert/Engineer.

1. Lower Optical unit ADF may be dirty. (Remove any dirt inside of the mirrors and lens of the Optical unit ADF with blow brush. Do not use air sprays which may build up condensation on the mirrors.)
2. Lower lamp may not be functioning properly.
3. The connecting cables might be damaged.
4. The connectors are not connected properly.

Hope the above information is helpful. Please revert if you have any doubt.

Has Fujitsu fi-4340c scanner. Worked for a while then it showed Front Side Optical Alarm. I tried to clean sheet path, and replaced roller and pickup pad. Still the same error. Does anyone has the...

Hi,
Explanation:
Front Side Optical Alarm only generated when start command is received or when white level reference is checked (every 50 scans). CCD output must be above predetermined slice level when reading the white reference. Slice level is set in F/W and compared to the read range values. The read range is approximately pixel 120 to 4800. If CCD output does not reach slice level the AGC tries to adjust the output of the amplifier to exceed the slice level. If any portion of the read range is lower than slice then Optical Alarm is generated. Also, it can be generated by dirty optics or reference, bad lamp or CCD.

Resolution:

If "Front Side Optical Alarm" appeared, clean the glass (small and large one) of the flatbed and carrier unit.
If the issue persists, then check if CCD harness or CR cable is disconnected? Connect the connector.
If the issue persists, then replace Front lamp.
If the issue is not resolved, then replace the Control PCA or Carrier unit or Optical unit.

Pls acknowledge if the issue is resolved.

Check if the paper size selected is same as that of the paper fed in. Clean the sensor in the ADF and remove if any scrap of paper is stuck.

Fujitsu fi 4750c scanner error

Try a flatbed scan scan with the cover open.  If you see the lamp come on, it's likely a cable or CCD problem, though it can be caused by a really dirty reference strip or mirrors. I've never seen one that dirty but it's mentioned in the service manual. I have seen lost documents in the ADF unit cause backside optical alarms, but the front unit is protected from this by glass. If the lamp doesn't light, it can be a defective lamp or cable. In all these cases, you'll need a tech onsite. Disassembly of this model is difficult & reassembly is even worse. I wouldn't recommend it even if you're mechanically inclined.
