1999 chevy s-10 service engine light on wont go off, check with computer no codes goes off when reset next day start truck back on. hook up computer no codes. how do i reset the light

wait about a day and let the car dry out some. Then reset the check engine light by unhooking the negative cable from the battery for 15 minutes or more. Hook it back up and see if the cel even comes back on. It probably wont but if it does, go to parts store and get the code and go from there. Shouldnt be a big deal, car is prob ok. Just get code if it does happen to come back on and reveal the year, make and model of the car and the code. But you need to reset the light 1st to see if it comes back on.

Check engine light comes on and off, these are indication that there is some error code stored in your vehicles ECM. The engine module computer needs to be scanned. These will give the code and as per the error code the further problem can be detected and confirmed. The engine light indicator blinks or remains steady on dash when engine computer noticed any problem with any engine electrically operated components.

what is the code coming up.? you can take it to a parts store and have it scanned for free. I bet the garage may knock something off or forget to plug something back it

must have a scanner to reset light but it will come back on until you fix the problem have the system checked to get trouble code that will let you know where to start

this may mean its time for an oil change it's the cars way of saying it's time for a scheduled maintenance.
Turn the key off and push and hold the select button. Keep holding while you turn the key to the on position (not the start position) keep holding for about 15 seconds then turn the key back off . next turn the key back to on position the light should only come on once. now you can start the car

There could be a hundred causes for a check engine light. First step is to hook up a computer scan tool and see what codes the computer has. The next step depends on the codes.

the first thing you should do it unhook the battery for 20-30 minutes to reset the fault and the computer. Hook it back up and run it, to see if the light comes back. If it comes back, then you'll have to take it somewhere to get it scanned to see what's causing the error code. If it goes away, it could have just been a glitch in the system.

this code takes at least two drive cycles to set. You can try to reset the engine light and emission computer and clear the code and see if the code resets. If it stays clear, it was probably a spurious code. To reset the engine light and emission computer, pull the No. 13 "clock/backup" (7.5A) fuse in the front passenger's kick panel fuse box. Wait at least 10 seconds. Put the fuse back in. This should put the check engine light out. I HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME A WHILE BACK. I TOOK THE CAR TO A CHECKER AUTO PARTS STORE, AND THEY HOOKED UP A HAND HELD DEVICE UNDER THE DASH THAT READ OUT THE PROBLEM,FROM THE ONBOARD CUMPUTER ( A CYLINDER NOT FIRING) , WHICH I HAD ALREADY FIXED ( I WAS MISSING ON 1 CYLINDER DUE TO WATER THAT GOT DOWN INSIDE UNDER THE SPARKPLUG BOOT .THEY ALSO CAN USE A CODE TO RESET THE LIGHT SO IT GOES OFF ONCE THE PROBLEM THAT THE ONBOARD COMPUTER HAS PICKED UP IS RESOLVED. CHECKER RESET THE COMPUTER AN THE LIGHT WENT OFF. THEY DID THIS FREE OF CHARGE!
