If its expensive and you have a decent neighbor or two who has wifi internet service you could let your wifi search for networks and find one or two that indicate a strong signal and ask your neighbor if they would provide the passcode to you and share their connection for half of what they are paying, or offer to cut their grass or something ! Good luck

SOURCE: using free wifi spots

If your laptop has wifi enabled, and you go to a place where there is a hotspot, you right-click on the little wireless icon in the system tray and choose "view available wireless networks." If one shows up and you can identify it, choose it and then click "connect."
But--beware--if you can't identify the network as being in the store/coffee house, etc where you are sitting, don't try to connect to it. This is an open invitation for identity thieves and other bad guys to get access to your computer.

SOURCE: when i go to free wifi spots, my dell latitude

When you are home, you should hopefully have a secure wireless connection. When you are not home you willl need to change the access point so you can connect to a free wi-fi connection.

When you want to connect to a free wi-fi connection, do this:

Click Start, Settings, and choose Network Connections. Look at the possibilities for connection assuming your PC is within range and the wireless card picks up the signal. Choose from one of the connections - choose the fastest and best one you can find. NOTE that these connections are usually NOT secure and you should not share personal information or do any banking, credit card purchasing, etc on an unsecure connection. Chatting is ok, but still exercise caution....there are lots of bad guys out there who would love to meet you and steal your identity, banking information...or worse. Better safe than sorry.

When you get back home, you will have to change the connection type back again to your home network so you can re-connect there.

SOURCE: i want hack free

There is no such thing for a home network... as soon as you broadcast out in the open air you are vulnerable... WEP encryption?? hacked (a matter of minuts) WPA (a matter of hours) WPA2 (a matter of days)... as for passwords??? the best password is composed of a long invented (not in the dictionary) word with characters, caps and small caps and numbers example: xaDertHryuBef$fO#Vis@38y40 now that is a good password (just try to remember it ha!) a good sniffer will show the SSID in minuts, search for the encryption key (8000 words a minut) and even if you filter with MAC address it will perform a MAC replication, NET WHISKER, NMAP, WIRER SHARK are some of the 1000 tools to hack networks... I'm a CWNA (Certified Wireless Network Administrator) and believe me if you want a COMPLETELY HACKER FREE WIFI it cost a lot of money and you need a 24/7 supervising... tell me how much you want to invest and I will tell you what to do to get the best buy for the buck...

I live nextdoor too a library which i am using them too connect my laptop with out a router.(eg: PC direct to Libra y router) yesterday it was super fast, but today it's slow i've tried all kinds of speed...

a great post and funny to read about snagging wifi.
lots of kids make a dish at school and use wifi from large distances.
so you are home right,. not in the library , right, and now expect the Libraries wifi to be fast at home , that far away,.
well it will never be fast ever. like that.
if you have a router that is 2 bands, there is no better routers.
the library only runs 2 bands I bet or even just 1.
so why not buy your own internet service,
or rig up this.

you can use a colander from moms kitchen
https://img1.etsystatic.com/202/0/5319571/il_570xN.1372655963_8crn.jpg

or other dish shaped objects to make this dish..
they need to be focused. and pointed to the library to work.
even card board, cut to a dish and aluminum foil works,

all this is fun stuff,
but never reliable.
at night they can have there router go off, on a timer.

How can i get internet?

The Nintendo 3DS connects to internet through wifi so the only way to get internet on it is to have a good Wifi connection wherever your 3DS is. So to get that you must either have a router in your house that creates a wifi connection in your home. If you only need it once though to download an update or something like that you can always go to a starbucks or Mcdonalds which has free wifi and just connect there.

The problem is I do not know about using wifi.I mean whats the use of a laptop if you can't transport it

You can transport a laptop and use it anywhere you want, but for reliable internet access when away from home then you will need to find public wifi. This comes in the form of either free public hotspots, such as at McDonalds and Starbucks, or secured wifi which is provided along with another service, such as at a hotel. In order to use any of these services, you need to have a wifi enabled laptop and the correct credentials to connect to the network. For free hotspots such as McDonalds, you don't need any other details other than to select the correct network from the list of available networks and connect. For hotel wifi and the like, you will most likely need a password or key to access the wifi, which is usually provided to you upon request.

Don't forget that laptops existed long before wifi, and that browsing the internet and reading emails isn't the only thing computers were built for!

Who can I get wifi outside my home?

One of the first things you need to know is that the internet you use at home is only available at home.
To get an internet connection away from home, you need to go to places that offer a free wifi connection. Some public places like a mall, restaurant - like Starbucks, the Apple Store, and libraries offer free WiFi. Be sure to ask them about it first. because some times there are networks labeled "Free WiFi" but they don't even connect to the internet and really just look to steal your information - so always ask first!

I just got this dell pp01l and want to know if it has wifi or do i have to buy a card in order to access the internet?

It will light up on your computer if you have one, there are many hot spots to use the wifi for free starbucks for one if want it for home and have existing computer you need a wireless router, the other option is a wireless stick from internet server provider cost about $30-60 a month depending on your plan and where you live. You can take it anywhere. There is a website if search wifi hotspots.

I have internet at home ...how do i access it

Do you want your ipod to access internet ??

iPod Touch has internet features, where as iPod classic can't.

You have to be near a WiFi signal to use the iPod Touch internet features, either your own or one provided for free locally in a public place (such as a library, cafe, coffeeshop, etc.) With an iPhone, when you have an activated service plan it comes with AT&T's Edge Internet network, and you can always access the full internet anywhere and everywhere Edge is available, which is most places. It's slow, but it gets the job done for me... ;-))

Question...

There are two ways of getting on line outside your home. 1- you can use a wireless card, built in if yopu're machine has the capability or a universal card. The universal cards are sold at Walmart or Bestbuy and come in bus port or usb port styles. If you use a built in or universal card, you will need to find a location that has free wifi, ie... Macdonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, shopping malls, coffee shops, hotel/motel, etc... all of these offer free wifi. The upside is that it's free, the downside is you have to find a place with free wifi. 2- you can go through your cellular provider, ie... AT&T, Cingular, Sprint, US Cellular, whoever you have and get an airtime wireless card. The cards are around $150, then you will have a monthly charge of around $60. This will allow you to connect anywhere, anytime, as long as you have a signal.

Laptop (HP) has wireless setting... but I want to go on the road with it and use the internet while traveling in my motor home or auto. How do I do this. What equipment do I need? It is connection to my...

There is a couple of different ways to do this. 1- you can use the built in wireless in the computer at places that have free wifi ie... McDonald's, Wendy's, BurgerKing, Coffee shops, Malls, hotels, etc... most of these have free wifi. The plus side is it's free, the downside is you are restricted to finding a place with wifi. 2- you can go through your cell phone provider and purchase an air time PC card. With this card you can go on line anywhere anytime as long as you have a signal, same as your cell. I know that just about every hotel/motel out there has free wifi now, and my folks like to travel alot in their motor home, and they told me that they see more and more camp grounds with wifi.
