Same problem, but was fine until added Wii. Wii color is fine, but not DVDs, which are in black and white. Don't see any place to change the region using set up. Thanks

Your player is set to the wrong format ie either ntsc if your in europe or pal if your in america, you need to go to the setup and make sure the dvd setup is for your region. pal in europe, ntsc in america..most dvd players automatically switch.but sometimes people change the settings without knowing.

Cable damage is the first thing to check. If the cable is external this is an easy check by trying a new one. Otherwise it is probably internal cable damage or damage to the video output plug.
dear your tv have three color systems and when you play vcd which is recorded in pal and you watched color when you play dvd which is recorded in ntsc system which is not available in your tv so you watch as black and white
The S_Video connection has precedence (most likely named AV1) over the RCA/composite one (better image quality - usually named AV2) so it will be automatically selected. If you want to view thru AV2 input you will have to select it manually every time you want it.
Same problem with an older JVC player. One end of the S-video cable was loose. Pushed in in tight and everything ok again. Cheap fix if it works for you.
maybe you programmed it with the wrong code sometimes that happen try the other codes that come with it make sure everything works before you think u got the right one.
