Question about GoVideo VR3845 DVD Recorder/VCR

6 Answers

GoVideo VR3845 Hello, I just recently started to experience a problem with my unit. When I try to insert a DVD or a blank DVD I get a message : "UNKNOWN DISC PLEASE CHECK DISC AGAIN". I have tried several DVDs several times with no success. I've had this unit for some time and had no previous problems with it. This just started recently. What can I do? Thanks George

Recently my VR3845 will not initialize new DVDs to be able to record on them. It runs through the process then will not read the initialized DVD. It just keeps cycling until I finally have to remove the disc.

Same problem. EVERY disk I insert gives "UNKNOWN DISC PLEASE CHECK DISC AGAIN".
In this instance I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF USING IT AND THIS IS HOW IT HAPPENED:
    1. recorded a disk and finalized it. worked perfectly.
    2. recorded new disk using only half the space, watched that program BEFORE finalizing - perfect.
    3. Took same un-finalized disk and began another session to record another VHS program to the unused portion of the disk. After pressing the "stop rec" button on remote, the deck stopped recording and displayed, "writing file, please wait".
    4. The deck then seemed to be stuck in this, "writing file, please wait" mode for at least 20 minutes. I could not make the machine respond in any way or even turn off. I then powered off the deck by holding down the power button until the machine turned off ( like shutting down a mac computer that is frozen).
    5. NOW the machine rejects all disks and gives the same "UNKNOWN DISC PLEASE CHECK DISC AGAIN" message for ALL disks I insert INCLUDING new blanks, the disk I was in the middle of recording AND the original disk that I burned and finalized, whick worked perfectly.
    6. This deck has copied dozens and dozens of disks for me previously with no problem.
!!!!!!!!!!!!???????? HOW CAN I RESET THIS MACHINE ???????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the vr3930 model and have the same unknown disc problem.

I also have stuck video recording, which means, if I am watching a recorded show selection 4 on my unit, the picture just freezes. I can't stop, eject or anything. I try to reset the unit or just unplug it. I actually lose the show or the disc. So frustrating.

I also have a problem with recording a program. When I pause my unit in order to cut out advertising commercials the unit soon defaults to stop recording altogether. I have to hit the record button again, which causes another new region to record. It just isn't worth it to edit a show while recording.

All of the problems spoken about on your units is happening to my unit.

GO Video went out of business and stuck all of us without support.

i have the same problem. Every time i put in a DVD it ejects it and says "Unknown disk please check disk again" . I put in cd or cleaner disk and it accepts it but not dvd's.

Can anyone help? I can't seem to reach anyone at Go Video. This is really frustrating

Same as everyone else that now DVD's do not function and only plays CD's. I tried to get information from Go-Video but I never even got a response. Don't buy their products because they provide no support. This is a firmware problem and they should have it as a download fix

I have had this problem on and off for several months and recentlydiscovered that shutting the recorder down and restarting it solved the problem. I now have to restart after initializing a disc and after finalizing a disc or it will give some sort of error message like unknown disc or copy protected, unable to record.

You can try cleaning laser pick up,use duster spray, if that dont work then the laser is bad and you have to replace the laser pick up and that mite be tought to find a replacement laser pick up.

WONT RUN

I bought the VR3845 on a whim, at a local Costco because of the DVD/VHS combo feature and the price. After 7 months the VR3845 suddenly wouldn't read DVD's anymore, even ones I'd recorded the night before. The GoVideo Web site was of no help and I'm now facing wasting hours of my time to get a replacement or my money back, assuming I can.

Other "features", you can only switch recording channels at the minute. That means you record, say 8pm to 9pm on channel 5, but you can't program the unit to record from 9pm to 10pm on a different channel. The programming interface will only let you start the next recording on a new channel at 9:01PM, so you lose the first minute of your program.

At the end of a programmed recording session the VR3845 automatically shuts off. If you're watching another channel while recording, suddenly all you see is static until you power up the VR3845 again.

Sorry Man but this thing just isn't worth it I would take it back.

I'm trying to get a phone number for technical assistance with my Govideo VR3845 VCR/DVD recorder.

No I haven't fixed it yet, but I'm going to keep trying on my own without paying for assistance. I have learned two things. (1) Govideo has gone out of business. (2) Costco (where I bought it) cannot help me.

DVD won't recognize the disk message below

Try running a DVD cleaner through it and see what happens. You can get one at Walmart for under $10. If that doesn't do the trick then take it to someone that can open it up to clean it.

GoVideo VR3845

I had the same problem "unknown disk, please check disk". Tried the reset method described in the owner's manual (power off, unplug and wait 5 seconds). This did not work.

I then put the unit into the setup mode (press set-up on the remote.) I selected "Factory Settings" under the general category and then chose "Set". These reset the unit and it seems to be working okay now. Hope this helps.
