I have a LG 44" rear projection TV, model: RU-44SZ51D. The picture comes on but stays very dark, I have adjusted all the contrast, brightness etc... and nothing seems to solve the problem.
To do this, press the ENTER button on the TV and the MUTE button on the remote at the same time. After 5 seconds the screen should come up and it will read "Lamp use time...Total lamp use time ....lamp reset" Press the center button on your remote (the circle button right in the middle of the four directional buttons) and you will be reset to -0- again. Your orange light should now be off.
Normally the main cause of any DLP having a dark picture is the lamp. I would replace it and it should look like a new set again.

I tried to access the hidden menu re Solution #2, but it asks for a 4 digit password. Anyone else try this?
I got the same problem i was told when the lamp is at the end of its life the power to the lamp is reduced so it will not blow the lamp and cause other problems with the tv. so when you replace the lamp the tv still thinks its got the old lamp and keeps the power on at a reduced level. the only way to fix this is to reset the lamp clock , this is done in the hidden service menu to access this menu hold the menu button on your tv and remote for about 6 seconds and it will appear. this is as far as i have got with this problem cause nobody seems to know where to go from there. lg are a no help they told me to pay for an lg service men to come out and do it for a price that could buy a new tv. and be carefull if you mess with the settings in the hidden menu you will screw you tv for good and not be able to use it at all. good luck in your hunt for information if i learn anything new i will post it
