Game Cartridge Previously I'm able to save game on my games & come back to it another time even after removing from the set but recently, 2 of my games are unable to retain the save data. I think there may be a battery to keep the memory, is there any way of replacing it? Thanks for reading.

You could also have accidently bought a pirated copy of the game, which have save batteries that work for a while but then die out.

They do have internal batteries in the cart. You can try opening up the cart using a 3.8mm (usually) security bit. Most of the units have a physical battery that you can replace but some have a soldered unit that cannot be replaced.

My gameboy color wont save is that the gameboys problem or the games??/

Hey there,
On the gameboy, the various game saves are always stored on their respective cartridges. Therefore, if the game won't save for whatever reason, it is the game's fault, not the gameboy's.
Hope this helped!

My save files continusly corrupted and the game also says the time is not set after I turn the Game Boy Advance off then back on. I'm also wondering if it has to be a Game Boy Color.

The internal battery inside the game cartridge has died and needs to be replaced. This watch battery is what keeps track of the save file and the time in the game. Remove the screw on the back of the game cart (you may need a special screwdriver) and pop off the cover, revealing the main PBC (PCB?) circut board of the cartridge. You're doing game surgery, so be careful with doing this. Bend the contacts keeping the battery in place and remove the battery. If you accidently broke off the contacts, you'll need to solder some more back on. Anyway, replace the old battery with a CR 2032 battery (common watch battery sold at retailers), or a CR 2025 will work as well. Just make sure the contacts are touching the right sides of the battery. I believe the default would be negative side down. It's recommended that you tape the battery down to keep it from coming loose. After all that is done, put the cartridge casing back on, screw the screw back into place, and insert it into your Game Boy. It really does not matter wether you're using Game Boy Color, Advance, Pocket, or any model. Your game should be able to keep the time and its save.

Pokemon Silver for Game Boy Color: my pokemon silver game for game boy color keeps sa...

Well its because the battery inside of the gamepack that allows you to save the game data is dead now or its a bad gamepack then.
Can your Pokemon game still hold a save?

If your Game Boy game is no longer able to hold a save, yet can still be played fine, that most likely means that the battery in the game cartridge has run out of energy.

You can easily replace this battery, restoring the cartridge's ability to store save data. This replacement can be performed for much less than the cost of buying a new game. You just need to purchase a new battery.

**Basic soldering skills required**

Materials:
Soldering iron
New 3 Volt Coin Cell Battery - CR2025 (165mAh) or CR2032 (220mAh)
Adhesive tape
Fine tipped hemostat or needle-nosed pliers

Flip over your cartridge.

Locate Screw

Using a hemostat, needle-nosed pliers, or anything else that you can grip it with, unscrew this little screw by turning counter-clockwise.

Once the screw has been removed, turn cartridge over, slide the front cover downwards, and pull it off.

Now you can see the circuit board, and the battery that allows one of the chips to retain the game save data.

You can see that both Pokemon Red and Silver cartridges look very similar, except that the Silver circuit board has a crystal oscillator in the upper left-hand corner to control the passing of time in the game.

Saving Issues on a Used Game Purchase

The internal battery in your game cartridge is probably long since given up the ghost. Due to this, your saved games are lost because there is no trickle of power for the memory. You can replace this battery, though, so not to worry. Open the cartridge and you'll find a small battery similar to one found in a watch. You can find a replacement at Radio Shack or similar places. You will need a soldering iron and few hand tools to accomplish this task.
