I have a Sony PS-LX300USB turntable. Zero issues for the past four years until last month when it started skipping very erraticly on several different records. I figured it was time to replace the stylus so I ordered a new one. It arrived today - got it installed with little difficulty but it isn't playing correctly. The sound is very muffled and unclear and it locks on every groove that it starts on. What did I do wrong?

I suspect something else is the issue. The records cannot be stored horizontally or they warp and this causes the needle to skip. If they are not flat as glass, they will not track properly. We used to sandwich vinyl disks between glass and put them in an oven to straighten them. There is some risk of course.

The pivot on which the tone-arm rotates is either binding or damaged. It would not be worthwhile having it repaired - replace it with an updated model

Perhaps you need to adjust the weight of the cartridge on the recording.

I am one of the lead technicians at VideoOneRepair.com. We are a repair shop that specializes in only Sony and Canon Prosumer camcorders.

The problem that you are experiencing with your Sony VX2100 camcorder is a common complaint on this model camcorder. It is not a defect with the camcorder, it is simply the most common complaint when the mechanically assembly is not running smoothly and perfectly. There are parts of the mechanically assembly that over a period of time wear and also possibly defective parts that can cause this problem. It will usually start off as audio dropout and then progressively get worse until you also have video dropout as well. The average repair cost for this repair is usually between $250 and $450 parts and labor. This also includes cleaning and servicing.

We also offer a 6 month guarantee on the entire camcorder, not just what it was sent in for. The estimate and the return shipping
are free even if you do not have the camcorder repaired. Please feel free to call, email or post any questions you have and I would be happy to respond.

Sincerely,
Sheryl Bahr

Got distracted. I need a start up disc for a Sony turntable model PS-LX300USB.Disc was missing in original package.Tried calling customer service WOW!!

I assume you mean a software disc is missing.

Then all you need to do is use this site. It will be in warranty so they should be able to send it out. If you have not registered the device do so at the same time.

Arm weight zero

I don't exactly what you are referring to by zero weight, but if it has a P Mount type of cartridge, there are no adjustments, such as tonearm balance, stylus pressure or anti-skating. For more information, please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com. Thank you.

Just received our Sony PS-LX300USB turntable, but cannot get the stylus to stay on. Any suggestions on how to install the stylus?

Hold the stylus at an angle, rear up/needle down. Put the rear of the stylus in first and then push the front of the stylus up and clip into place.

Which stylus number did you use?

Is there a mac os x driver available anywhere for the sony ps-lx300usb turntable?

You do not need a driver for mac... just plug the usb cable into your mac... go to sound settings in system preferences and set USB to default audio input device... then install audicity... it is free and open source... play your record and hit record in audicity. done.
