I have a Olympus E 500. My brother borrowed it one time and fiddled with some of the settings of the camera. Now, I don't know how to bring it back to the settings it was before. Neither my brother knew what to do. Pls help me coz all my shots are not like before as clear. Even when I wish to press the shutter button half way, I cannot do. There's no focus lock anymore. Pls help.
Give that camera to your brother and make him buy you a new one.
if he doesnt do that then read the manual. if you dont understand the manual what makes you think
that we could even help you also try to see if theres a help line ..the techs at olympus might walk you though all your problems. or go online and read ..also just try to to put everything in auto mode as you flip through the menu on the camera.
good luck

If your camera does act strange, it is just malfunctioning and you need to contact a service centre.
If there was a bug in the software, all registered users would have had a mail, for a firmware upgrade. I'm afraid there is not such a thing as restore bios.
The deepest restore, is reset settings in the camera to factory settings, but for that, your camera has to work normal.
What settings you can set back and how, you can find in your manual.
Remove the battery for 15 mins then replace the battery. The camera will go back to the factory defaults, go to the camera's Menu and set the Date & Time.
Make sure you go to the camera menu and go to the setup tab and change All Reset from On to OFF. This will retain the setting of the image quality to SQ2.
By default Olympus cameras do not print the date on the images when they are downloaded to a PC. Olympus does not include this functionality because they feel that it detracts from image quality. There is a function of the camera called print order that you can set that it will print the date on the images but this is only if you take the card to a photo processing store. However if you use the Olympus Master software and print the images that you have previously transferred there is a check box in the print setting window that you can add the date and or time to the printed image.
It sounds as if you accidently hit the button for custom white balance setting. It is very easy to do with this camera as this button is located close to the shutter button.
Turn the camera mode dial to the P mode setting. Go to the Menu. Go to the camera 1 tab and then right arrow over and then down arrow to custom reset setting. Right arrow over and highlight reset and press ok. Highlight Yes and press ok. This will reset the camera back to factory settings and should remove the blue from your images.

The EVOLT E-500 does not have a live view LCD screen so you can see the image you wish to take a picture of. You must use the viewfinder to take images with this camera and only use the LCD to review the images.
As far as to reset the camera back to factory defaults, you need to turn the camera dial to P go to the Menu and on the camera 1 tab right arrow over and then arrow down to custom reset setting and then hit the right arrow highlight reset and press ok it will show reset yes or no highlight yes and press ok this will reset the camera back to its factory settings
If you are shooting in the Auto mode and make the changes when power the camera off it will reset back to factory defaults. If you change the dial to P mode, make those same adjustments and power the camera off and then on again it should maintain those settings. Auto just uses the factory defaulted settings.
I had a problem that may be related to yours. From time to time, whenever I opened the cover, the lens wouldn't work properly. It would make a grinding noise and then when I took pictures they would all come out out of focus. After much fiddling about, I eventually discovered that if I set ALL RESET to FALSE on the SETUP menu, it returned to normal. Possibly this could fix your problem. Otherwise maybe its a battery problem. My camera sometimes refuses to take pictures when the battery is low.
When in the taking mode- this SLR will not show an image as other cameras- because the mirror is down for the reflex view finder- this is normal for this type of camera although I understand there is a make/model that gets around this - but it is not the E-v 500 just like my E-v 300
