Camera will not operate when power is turned on

Every time I turn on the power I get a message on the screen telling me to turn the power off and then on again. When I do this the message repeats and repeats and I cannot use my camera. My battery is fully charged.

When I tried the power on again I got the same message and I did notice that nothing opened on the lens. Before I contact sony repair, are there any other possible solutions?

It is just possible that vibrating the camera can free the lens mechanism. Put the camera on a towel on top of the washing machine for a couple of minutes, or take it for a drive. If this does free the mechanism, whatever it has shaken free is still in there somewhere, so even if the camera seems to be working fine it is worth getting it serviced anyway or the problem will probably reappear. Hope this helps, Dinoza is right - there is little that you can do inside yourself without serious risk of destroying the camera completely :) PS If you need us to find you a service centre, please post back with your general area and we should be able to find one close by.

From sony support site "The error TURN THE POWER OFF AND ON AGAIN will be displayed if the lens assembly is not operating correctly. Ensure fresh batteries are installed or make sure they are fully charged and then try turning the camera off and then back on. NOTE: If the error message still occurs, service may be required." I think you can pass on checking the battery. obviously your lens mechanism is somewhat busted (usually this happens when a camera is on and put in the pocket then the zoom button gets pushed and the lens tried to move with no avail, or sand that got into the mechanisem), and you'll have to get it repaired. However, If you are handy or daring :-) you can often clear the problem by removing the lens assembly and using compressed air on it to blow any grit out of the way. To dismantle the actual assembly can be really asking for trouble as they can be mongrels to put back together. But if you're methodical and have a good memory you may be lucky. I'm sorry there's nothing I can tell you which is DIY. Use your warranty if valid. Good luck D.

Configuring display language, Date and Time Settings.

Perform the reset operation to initialize the camera’s setup (page 136). After that, configure each setting. If the language selection screen does not re-appear when you turn the camera on, it means that the camera’s built-in memory management area has been restored. If the same message appears after you turn power back on, contact your retailer or a CASIO service center.

The lenses were stuck and on the screen it says "lens error".I do not know how it happened. We were just taking photos and when we are about to view them, it vibrated then turned itself off.

This message appears when the lens performs some unexpected operation. If the same message appears after you turn power back on please check that if there is something which blocks the motorized movement of the lens.If so clean it with cotton swabs or soft cloth. After cleaning power off and on again repeatedly two three times.

Failure to operate - reimsert battery

Replace the battery. After you turn it off for a while, the battery comes back just enough to allow operation for a short time. After that time is over, the camera doesn't operate. Then if it sits for a while, the battery can power the camera for another short time.

SONY

The lens element is damaged internally and needs to be replaced as an entire unit. The camera runs through a "self check" each time it is powered up and it is detecting an error in the lens. Ship this unit to Sony in Laredo, TX. The warranty may not apply if they see there is impact damage to the lens. The flat rate repair charge will not apply here either due to physical damage to the lens element. be sure to request an estimate before the work is performed. Hope this helps you, we see this problem all the time with digital cameras that have lenses which extend during operation. Joe Weibel Custom Electronics (customelectronics.org)
