This is probably not a problem you can solve without taking the phone apart. If you know someone who knows tech well enough to do that for you, that might be a way to go.
Otherwise, was the phone new when you bought it? There was probably a warranty on it.
Oh... Well, "all in French" is different than "no data," which is what you said before. There probably was a way to switch languages, so if you don't have the manual for it, go to www.ge.com and look for online manuals. often the voltage on an adapter is 6V for a cordless phone. INPUT is usually 120 VAC. OUTGOING shouldn't be much higher or the phone will be blitzed. Hope this helps!

Suggest you check with your phone company first. Many areas now require you to sign up for "long distant calling plan" before you can call "long distance".
