Question about Panasonic PT-47WX49 47" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Red Gun screwy!!

Two days ago, the red gun went whacky...I went into convergence and it went away. The TV ran fine for two days but today, I turned it on and the same thing it happening. The red is about 2 inches too high on the left side and sweeps down to about two inches too low on the right side. ALso, the top right is too high, but the center looks fine. Can anyone give me some direction at to where to begin troubleshooting this set? Thanks!

You have a typical convergence problem here that happens on just about every tube type projection TV set ever made. There are two STK IC's that will need to be changed. Best thing to do, if you have any soldering experience on printed circuit boards, would be to get the service manual, locate the convergence amp IC's order the correct parts and not any replacement IC's that cost less the 20 bucks, and change the IC's. If you have no solid state repair experience, play it safe and call in a pro to assist you in this repair. Good Luck

RCA 50" - Convergence problem and now "Popping" + no picture

The high pitch popping that you are hearing is arcing in the high voltage circuit. I would not suggest a repair on a set that is this old. Convergence repair plus a high voltage problem could run around $500-$600. But it is your call on the repair, I can only advise.

I hope this helps you.

This is a convergence problem and is either bad connections at the convergence ICs or defective ICs. If you can solder, you can repair this yourself. Let me know if you wish to repair this and I can provide you with additional details.

Convergence Issues...

Yes the Ics are easially replaced if you can solder. You will need two STK392-560 Convergence ICs and possibly the 12 4.7 ohm 1/2 watt resistors as Sony sets will usually weaken the 4.7 ohm. You can get the replacement ICs ad resistors at the following link and they provide free instalation instructions with picture as well as free online tech support in case you need additional help. 3 blinks means the convergence circuits are shutting the set down. Usually the convergence ICs will take care of the problem, but I would recommend getting the service manual from the following link, as they will provide you free support to help you diagnose why it wont start as usually the convergence ICs wont prevent a set from powering up, unless another component in the convergence circuit has failed.

Hitachi 50UX14B rear projection: Took apart 2 clean, now red is off

What do you mean by covers? do you mean focual lens? did you replace them to there proper place (red to red, green to green, ect..). each has it's own focal legnth and must be placed on the correct gun. did you adjust (accidentaly) the red centering polls?if you did please have a tech readjust them you can end up with convergance amp overload. did you try to converge the lines? if they did not move when adjusting you may have a convergance amp problem. read my motto

Red and green lamps look off center

Intermittant convergence alignment issues are quite common.
Either solder the convergence IC pins or better yet , change out
the IC's with first quality OEM spec or upgrade..............T.
