Question about HP PSC 500 All-In-One Printer
My Hewlett Packard PSC 500 "suddenly" seemed to stop working (albeit after I caught my toddler playing in the office, so I don't know if she screwed with the buttons or not). I only use my HP PSC 500 like a photocopier for scanning/printing. It is not hooked up to the PC at all. Just plugged in for scan/print. When pages are copied, there are missing lines, "off center" or "blurred" lines and the color is off. The red prints red, but the blue prints red, and the yellow doesn't print at all. I recently replaced the color cartridge and the black ink cartridge is brand new. Now, I did purchase these cartridges from one of those online, discount places (worldclassink), so I don't know if that could be the problem or not, but it all happened immediately after my toddler was sneaking out of bed to play in the office, so I'm not sure. And I bought the brand new black cartridge thinking that was the problem, but when I replaced it today, it still didn't fix these issues. (I have no idea how to set it to just print in black & white to see if it's the color cartridge that is the problem.) Can SOMEONE give me any idea as to how I might fix this? I've aligned the printer and gone through the Menu settings to see if I could figure something to fix, setting-wise but am coming up at a loss... especially because this isn't hooked up to the PC, I would have thought it would have been easier for me to fix than this. Thanks!
Hi there, the first thing I would ask is, do you think your toddler may have spilled something in the printer? The second thing I would suggest, replace the color ink cartridge. If you have an old empty one, put that in and see if you get a different result. It has been my experience that a lot of the generic or refilled cartridges have problems. I would recommend a new HP brand color cartridge. That is if you can eliminate a liquid spill. John

Thanks, John! It's so good to be able to bounce this off of someone as I was feeling a real loss of my photocopier since when I need it, I really need it.
I'm sure that she didn't spill anything as she didn't have access to anything and the only thing of caution I found her with was two permanent colored markers and a sticky pad (risky!). I'm thinking you're right... it's probably a good idea to buy a brand new cartridge and try that. I didn't get the impression that WorldClassInk was refilled cartridges, but then again I was wooed by the price so I didn't really look into it. I will order another cartridge and re-post with my findings. Thank you so much for taking the time to consider my printing issue.
UPDATE:
(HELLLLP!) Okay, $24 dollars later... I changed the ink (HP 23) and it didn't fix the problem. Argh!

Turns out this is a generic cartridge issue. Luckily I've only spent $14.24 at WorldClassInk.com, but their product is REALLY SHODDY. This is the second purchase I've made from them that has gone bad. The first was due what they said was a "bad batch" which now... five months down the line doesn't work anyway... and this color cartrige doesn't work either.
Regarding the $24 cartridge I bought at Staples, it turned out I had forgotten to remove the sticker on the Staples HP cartridge (duh!) so it wasn't printing. I removed the sticker today and copied something in color and it prints beautifully. Now I have to go buy a HP black cartridge because the generic one WorldClassInk sold me ran out in less than 5 months.
It pays to pay full price for ink. Lesson learned. Two strikes and you're out, "World Class" Ink!!!
My psc-500 only prints red ink after changing the cartrige
