Question about Palm Tungsten E Handheld

Open Question

Using Palm Support has caused a reoccuring issue

I chose to utilize Palm Support ($25.00 fee) to correct a problem of my calendar data being deleted. I paid the fee, they corrected the problem, and all was well for a month...then one day my calendar data was gone. I contacted Palm Support and explained I was having the same problem; my calendar was void of all data. Since I was calling just after the warranty period I received with my first payment (28+ days or so), I had to pay another $25.00 fee. Well, it's been another month and my calendar is again void of all data. Their 'fix' is causting me too munch. Does anyone know how to undo the Palm Support 'help' I have received? Thank you.

SOURCE: Corrupt Date Book Fixed

Updated Instructions Simple fix for a corrupted Date Book sync error (at least it worked for me on my Treo 650). 1). Turn off 'Show Calendar Event' in the Phones 'Options - General Preferences' menu. 2). Turn off phone. 3). Set the Date/Time to the maximum limits (12/31/31) in Preferences. 4). Open the Calendar and view the maximum day 12/31/31. 5). Select 'Purge - (Delete events older then 1 week)' in the Calendars Options menu. 6). Reset the Date/Time to the current day in Preferences. 7). Hotsync (Desktop Calendar overwrites handheld). 8). Hotsync again to make sure you don’t get the error (Synchronize the files). That’s it. =============================== Outlook Calendar The attempt to open the database failed. Date Book application database is not found. Please invoke the Date Book application on the handheld once and re-synchronize. SOURCE: Palm M515 and compatibility with Vista Home Premium

I was having a similar problem with my M515.  I had originally installed the Palm Desktop from my CD, which was an older version.  When I totally uninstalled the old version and installed the newer version from the Palm website I was able to do a successful sync.  I'm using Windows Vista Ultimate and Palm Desktop version 4.1.4

There is a reset pin hole on the back of the unit; Hold the power button and push the reset button in the hole with a paperclip. All memory should now be erased.

Data Lost - Palm T 3

  1. BACK UP YOUR PALM DATA! It is normally in C:\Program Files\PalmOne\XXXXXX, where XXXXXX is the first six of your Palm's User ID. If it is not there, the location can be found in Palm Desktop (Tools-> Options).
  2. Is the correct Data still present in Palm Desktop? If Yes, you're in great shape, it should sync back to the Palm after a hard-reset.
  3. If not, close Palm Desktop and look in the data directory. Some subdirectories (address, datebook, etc.) should have BAK files. If the BAK files are bigger than the DAT files, delete the DAT files and rename the BAK files to DAT. Restart Palm Desktop. Is the data there now?

If not, I am afraid you've had a learning experience. My Palm is synced to two different machines. One is running RAID-1 (mirrored drives), and both are backed up to tape weekly. Me? Paranoid? Naah...

Most people have to find out about backups the hard way.

Lost Data

Sounds like you've wiped all your data. It's a good discipline to keep a regular backup of all your Palm files on the PC so that if this happens you can restore the last backup and re-synchronise. I have had several Palm devices, and all of them have corrupted files at some point.

Overwrite all calendar events

Selct Desktop overwrite Handheld. You can change the way the synchronisation takes place for all applications, either from the palm desktop application or from the status icon in the taskmanager bar. There are different options: - Synchronize - Handheld overwrite desktop - Desktop overwrite handheld - Do Nothing If the PC is up-to-date and you want to use these data you should select the "Desktop overwrite Handheld". This will clear the handheld calender and replace with the data from the pc/desktop

Tungsten E and Outlook 2003 sync problem

yes I moved my files to a new machine and reinstalled palm (which of course also created the dreaded multiple copies of many palm contacts, when palm discovered older archives, but that is another story!) I wouldn't mind that if the palm pilot would just sync with outlook 2003. It synched with Outlook 2000 on my old machine.
