That's a purge drive error, indicates you need a new purge assembly, the part that cleans and prime the printhead, on the right side. It could also have a paper scrap or something blocking it's operation.

SOURCE: My canon MP610 shows an error message U052 Incorrect print head
you wont like what you find. lol .
apparently if you call cannon support they going to tell you its a U052 is a temperature sensor error. and not the print head error. someone musta did some bad programming. lol
try returning the cartridge if its not a canon specific cartridge - and get replacement - try that - but i doubt its going to work - i would call about a new one (print head that is - they will also apparently send you a new print head.) as i have read up on
hope this helped x404x

You've eliminated all other options, so obviously your printer is defective.

Call canon if it is under warranty, otherwise you will have to replace it.

Service error 5C00. Cancel printing and turn the printer off and then back on. If this doesn't clear the error, see the printer manual for more detail.

Waste Ink Counter Reset.
(1) Turn off the printer.

(2) Press and hold the RESUME button, then press and hold the POWER button.

(3) Release the RESUME button, Next press and release the RESUME button two(2) more times in succession. Note: you are still holding the POWER button). The printer's carriage will “reset" or move momentarily.

If the above was properly performed the printer will enter the "Service Mode".

(4) Press the RESUME button 4 times, this will select the clear waste ink counter function. The lamp will alternate (change) color with each key press. Next press the POWER button to "set" the change, and return to the top of the function selection menu. Press the POWER button again to restart the printer.

The problem with resetting the waste ink counter is that the waste tank could at some point over-flow. If you manage to get inside to empty the wadding and waste ink tank, make sure you wear rubber gloves as the ink will get everywhere..
And make sure you replace with some fresh wadding if you can..

Canon iP4500 waste ink reset:

1) With the machine power turned off, while pressing the Resume/Cancel button, press and hold the ON/OFF button. (DO NOT release the buttons). The Power LED lights in green to indicate that a function is selectable.
2) While holding the ON/OFF button, release the Resume/Cancel button. (DO NOT release the ON/OFF button.)
3) While holding the ON/OFF button, press the Resume/Cancel button 2 times, and then release both the ON/OFF and Resume/Cancel buttons.
4) When the Power LED lights in green press the Resume/Cancel button 4 times
then press the ON/OFF button.

I found this info by googling iP4500 waste ink reset. It is the same procedure shown in the service manual for the iP4200 and the MP610. In the MP610 service manual it says after the reset it will print a page: ("D=000.0" is printed at the top left of the paper.) I don't know if the iP4500 does this page print, so you might want to have at least one sheet of paper loaded just in case.

Canon MP610 ink refill

Without the resetter it will continue to give error codes, holding the resume button for 5-10 seconds sometimes will turn off ink level reporting, but you either need the resetter or to purchase and install reset circuit boards on each cartridge you refill.

Status Monitor informs of Ink levels requiring me to press resume button during and after each print job.

What it means is the tank to collect waste ink (from cleaning etc) is full.
Canon suggest you return ther printer for replacement of the absorbant mat, suggest you scour the web for DIY cures.
