When the compressor is running, the refrigerator makes a whinning noise. The noise is not constant. The volume of the noise increases intermitently. The sound seems to be coming from the freezer section of the refrigerator.
I have the same problem, but it seems to be the fan in the freezer behind the metal cover. When I stop the fan, the noise stops...? Is the fan out of balance ??
Sutty, you have a 2 speed DC evaporator motor in this model. There should be at least 60 seconds between any fan speed changes. On the back side of the refrigerator you have a main board. Unplug J2 connector on the board. Check for 13VDC between pins j2-3 and j2-8, then check for 8 to 13VDC between j2-3 and j2-4. If the voltage is correct I would suspect the evaporator motor. If the voltage is incorrect, then the problem is in the main board. Pins read from left to right 1 through 8. Catriver.
This is the way firidges are made.
**** isnt it..

Hi,
Many times a freezer and/or refrigerator do not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many other things that can go wrong.
If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing then check out the last two tips.
If your refrigerator is running but warm, then...
Check out these tips that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

I am having this same problem with my new GE side by side. When the compressor comes on, the squeeling/screeching sound varies in pitch and loudness. It is so annoying sometimes I can hear it over my TV. I just had a repair guy here today, and he told me it sounded normal to him. I argued that it is not normal for a refrigerator to make high pitch sounds & gurgling sounds. He finally ordered a new compressor, and stated that when it is installed, it could end up making things worse. What should I do? Why is my new refrigerator making these horribly annoying sounds when the compressor runs. The repair guy said they started making them differently nowadays, and he claims mine sounds like what he is used to hearing.
I have a GE Side by Side and it makes the same loud whining noises you all are describing. It was purchase at Home Depot 3 years ago, but only started the whining about 3 months ago. Home Depot says its probably dust/dirt clogging airflow. But, pulling it out, taking off the back and vacuuming everything didn't solve the problem.
It doesn't whine all the time, only when the compressor runs. Turning the thermostat down to off for the freezer section stops the whining (but, duh turns off the compressor).
I have the same refrigerator with the same problem. If I keep anything on the top shelf of the freezer (above the ice maker) it seems to make the problem much worse.
We have the same refrigerator and the same whistling, whining noise from the freezer area. It's very irritating. Any suggestions for fixing?
yes same thing with mine anyone have a answer?
The issue is identical to the description posted. The refrigerator makes a whinning noise. The noise is not constant. The volume of the noise increases intermitently. The sound seems to be coming from the freezer section of the refrigerator and it's ennoying as hell!
I have a Frigidaire side-by-side that does the same thing. The noise is a high enough pitch that not everyone can hear it (like repairmen) but it drives me and my dog NUTS! It started a week ago. I have blown/ vacuumed, releveled, pulled out, moved things inside. HELP!
Ours is a brand new Whirlpool and the high pitched noise makes a person think their ears are ringing. Is it normal? It is not constant - just when the refrigerator is running.
