Motherboard supporting both windows-98 and win-XP-pro

Hi, this is ddy sharman, I want to upgrade my 'intel-P3-600-cpu & 810-mobo' desktop system. Is there anyone who could suggest me :- 1) Latest cpu and mobo which supports both 'Windows-98' and 'Windows-XP-pro'. 2) The motherboard should also support atleast one IDE Hard Disk Drive. 3) The RAM specification in excess of 1GB. Budget is not an issue though, i am planning to go for a 'core 2 duo', but scared of the idea whether it will support both the OS or not, and which motherboard that conforms the above.

It would be difficult to advise you as to which board to go for, as there are many different things to take into consideration, i would look at www.ebuyer.com and choose one then do a google search for any buyers comments. The problem with Win 98 is that newer mobo,s will not have driver support for it, as with Win98 you have to continually revert back to your win98 cd to install certain files which are no longer compatible with new boards. If you wish to dual boot a system; using XP and vista would be more suitable for the type of hardware you will be using.

Which intel motherboard ( model detatil) is suitable for an intel dual core 2.6 Ghz processor?also what should be the capacity of ram that may suitably mathe the intel dual core 2.6 Ghz processor?

Assuming the CPU you have is an E5300 2.6 duo 45nm then use an LGA 775 mobo.

For Win XP / Vista run at LEAST 2gb (Preferably 4GB) Ensure the mobo specs are compatible with the type of ram also.

I am using an older PC with a ASUS CUSL2 AGP Pro/4X Motherboard as a intra-offfice server devise. I'd like to add USB 2.o or change out the 2 rear USB prots to 2.0. I've tried doing this witha USB 2.0 PCI...

You have two options

One is to replace the whole motherboard but that would probably also entail new ram, cpu, cooler, graphics card, even maybe a new PSU.

Two is to fit a pci usb 2.0 card.

You said you did TWO but it didnt work. I am not sure why without more details but if you are using windoes 95 or less than that would be a major problem.

Only the later windows 98 and above can really make full use of USB 2.0 and even with 98 and win ME you would need to make sure he correct drivers were installed too.

Will motherboard will support winXP pro

Hi gimondor,

The motherboard really isn't your worry. Windows XP pro requires a 300 megahertz or higher processor. You motherboard can take from 100 to 400 megahertz, so you need to know what your CPU is. If your running an intel P4 chip, and at least 128 mbs of ram, and you have at least 2 gb's of hard drive space left on your hard drive, then you can run XP Pro.

Good Luck,

And please leave a rating based on my solution.
