Will not play any DVD

Every time I try to play a DVD, it says that it can not play this type of disc??? The discs work fine in other players

I have two of these machines, and neither will play any DVD. These are purchased, manufactured DVDs, not copies. It says it doesn't recognize the type of disc. You can hear the head hunting for a minute or so then it gives up. It worked briefly when new.

Ditto. Mine won't play any purchased or currently owned non-copied DVD I have played previously without error. Please help.

I may have bad news for you. Here's my story with the PVD4744S.

I watched over an hour of a DVD-video disc one night, no problems. The next night, I played only the intro; then the DVD player gave a message, "This type of disc cannot be played. Please insert another disc." Thereafter, I couldn't play any of several DVDs.

The manual gives little help:

My disappointment is exacerbated by the declining availability of DVD/VHS players with an RF modulator. Maybe Panasonic should create a repair kit for aging devices.

I doubt this is due to the region code issue. Your DVD disc region code is not compatible with your DVD player.

Get a region free DVD player program on your PC and then you will be able to play DVD discs from any regions, with any region codes. You can try Leawo Blu-ray Player which is a free Blu-ray player, a DVD player and a region free player.

SOURCE: dvd "unknown disc" message coming up

Have you tryed to use a lens cleaning disc yet. The laser lens on these players and recorders alike, must have the lens cleaned every oince in awhile. If that does not help, most likly you have a bad laser pickup assembly and you will need to replace the plaer as to have that repaiered, you could buy a new unit. Good Luck

SOURCE: Samsung 3650 dvd/vcr player loading problem

Sorry, no suggestion other than don't buy Samsung. That's my conclusion after owning the same model. It worked fine for a while, but now won't load any DVD... usually. Sometimes it will play one, but more often it won't. Mine tries to load ("Loading") for a long time, I hear the DVD spinning, then ultimately the screen displays "This disc cannot be played" or something to that effect.

SOURCE: DVD player recorder won't read or play any disc

This just worked for me. Don't know how long it will last though. I found it on this webpage
http://forum.ecoustics.com/bbs/messages/15118/130292.html

To do a reset:
On the remote control press the SETUP button,
Press the right key on the remote 3 times,
The Preference page will show up,
Press the down arrow five time to highlight
"default", hit right arrow to highlight "reset"
Press enter to reset. Turn off/on machine, etc.

Keeps telling me bad disk...the dvd works in another machine. What does this error mean?

Some players are better then others, try a different disc, if it plays then, player is fine, it's just not got a good enough laser eye to read the disc you want to play or laser eye is dirty. You might try cleaning laser ,player to see if that's problem. If it won't play other disks even after cleaning then it's time to replace player. Not sure what type disk your trying, dvd or blu ray, but I've noticed that dvd's play better in blu ray players, they have better laser eye for reading disc.

Why does my sony DVP display "No Disc" for every disc; when they play fine in any other player?

Sony tend to have a notorious disc lasers... couple of things you might want to try..

1. clean the lens using a standard Lens cleaning CD.
2. Try playing a CD (music) instead of DVD (if this works...it is likely that the lens is not reading DVD)

DVD no longer reads any discs and won't play.

remove cover of dvd player, than use a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol and clean the lens. if it still doesn't work than I would suggest buying a new one. you can get a decent player for just $30 new

Disney dvd player wont play movies (dvd) but plays music (cd) fine

Might be the type of movie - some of them are only able to play "G" ratings. Try this: click <play> 1234 <play> It will likely unlock the dvd that is in and will begin to play. You will have to do the 'code' each time, or there's an unlock program you can purchase.
