Your Viewsonic (apparently) used: Android OS 2.2 and that is quite old!

(Almost always), a Android device needs to be OPERATIONAL before it can be updated. It MUST also be able to 'communicate' to receive the updated OS...

Now your VS (apparently) HAS a external SD Card slot, so you MAY be able to copy the new Android OS to that card then maybe you can load from there ~ BUT, your Tablet MUST be operational to do it!

a rt tablet is NOT a android tablet. it runs a leaner windows based live tile system called windows 8 rt. you cannot get pure android applications on the asus but you developers will port applications over to other operating systems so you may be able to get a different version or something simlar on that kind of tablet if the developer made it.

There is no manual for Android Operating System (OS) as such because different vendors (like Dell, Samsung, etc) can customize the OS. So no manual will work on all devices. You can however look at your product manual. Btw, for most of the common tasks you can do a simple search on internet and you will get the answer. Otherwise, just post the question here on fixya.
