Try changing the batteries, has anythin happened to it??? dropped, spilled on, opened, etc., anything can be a facotr but the batteries and or power cable are the most obvious guesses, what gameboy is it , classic(brick style) pocket, color, gba, gba sp, or is it not a gameboy but a ds??? its easier to help someone if they provide a little information about their problem.

After I saved my file on pokemon yellow version special pikachu edition I turned it off. When I turned the game on all it said was new game and options instead of continue

Alright, save games on most Game Boy games are stored on the game itself. To keep these games saved, each game has a small battery continually providing power to a small memory unit actually installed on the game. What has probably happened is that the battery inside the game has run out of power, and so it won't hold any saves anymore. The good news is that these batteries are easilly replaceable, and there's quite a number of online walkthroughs to show you how to do it. If you run into trouble finding one, let me know and i'll hunt one or two down for you :)
