My television doesn't show a picture but the sound still works. The writing on the blank screen curves on a semicircle. The colors are also a little bit warped- like a rainbow.
It happened once or twice but always fixed itself if we turned the TV off for a while. Now it is permanently stuck on the blue warped screen.
Any thoughts on how I can fix this myself?

Re: Mitsubishi diamond hd1080
It sounds like you will have to replace the convergence IC's in this TV set. Not a really hard repair to do but you will need to know how to solder and work on solid state printed circuit boards. Good Luck

Nope, But your convergenjce chip is about to die. i would turn it off and leave it off and call a tech to rectify it before it takes out the whole board or all 3 as some capacitors are also overheating. Parts $100+Labour of about 1.5 hrs at this stage! later it will be $600
Perform Reset From Front panel of Tv, wait until green light stops blinking, set is running self diagnostic. If that doesn't work, it could be something in the DMD Panel containing the Digital Micromirror Device

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input/device and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source.
this sound to me is a convergence problem may cost to you 350$ if you want to do it by your self need to buy 2 stk 392 110 but if you dont know nothing about electronics i recomend you ta`ke the tv to a service center
I has a similar problem and I didn't quite fix it but made it less noticeable.
Press menu and then the code 2-3-5-7, this enters a service menu. Press Audio/Video to go between the options to get to options 40-50 to adjust geometry. Be sure to write what setting there on before you change it (even if they're wrong) just in case.
Its just trial and error from there, and hope I can still help.
sounds like it could be a problem in the vertical sweep curcuit as if the vert sweep fails it blanks out the video and screen drive so the tubs dont get a line burnt into the face of the picture tube. Have this checked out by a pro as I doubt if you can do this repair unless your an electronic tech.. Good Luck
