Well, after many hours of fooling with this, I fixed my problem. I tried so many things, I'm not sure what worked. But, try this: 1. insert the cd that came with your mp3 2. in my computer, open up the "PhillipsGoGear" then the "Device Manager". Double click on firmware. 3. copy and paste the FWImage.mif to the "MY C Drive" (that is what my internal mp3 drive was called} 4. reset the unit by holding play and volume up. My player's screen changed to the mp3/computer data transfer image, and everything is working perfect now. Sorry for the comment about the waste of money player. They have problems, but they do sound awesome. geoela

I have the same problem. A tech at Phi;;ips told me to throw it away. It was not fixable. What a waste of $150.00. A piece of crap mp3. Don't buy Phillips. Player is crap and tech support is just as bad. geoela

Depends what OS your computer has. For XP, you do Start_Settings_ControlPanel. In control panel, Open "System" In "System", click first on the "Hardware" tab, then on the "Device Manager" button. The layout on other Operating systems is sometimes a little different, so you might have to fiddle a bit.with the instructions to get there. Once in Device Manager, with the MP3 player plugged in, you need to start looking at the various entries for the player. There are quite likely to be at least three - one under "Disk Drives", one under "Storage Volumes", and one (USB Mass storage device) under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". Right Click each in turn and select "Properties". Hopefully this will reveal which of the virtual devices isn't working properly, and clicking the associated "Troubleshoot" button will offer you a way ahead. A.

Very odd. The pc must have seen it in the first place (albeit sensing something wrong) - otherwise you wouldn't have got the original "Start Device Manager".
Next step is probably to try plugging the player into a different pc, and checking whether it gets detected. If it doesn't, that would suggest a fault in the USB interface on the MP3 player.
