My son's playstation 2 (4 years old) starts up, but will not read his games. I have cleaned ALL his games, tried them several times, reset the system, deleted some old saved games. The only thing it does is go directly to the browser. Upon deeper inspections it does not appear that the "turn table" lack of a better word is spinning. Unfortunetly he keeps the playstation on forgetting to shut it off.
My daughters playstation 2 works with the playstation games, but does not work with the playstation 2 games. Anyone know why?My daughters playstation 2 works with the playstation games, but does not work with the playstation 2 games. Anyone know why?

The games are fine it is the system. it needs a cleaning. if it trys to read it it needs to be cleaned. if it trys to read it and it says error/ cannot read then the laser needs to be adjusted. if it just does not do anything, you need your laser replaced. send it in to a game system repair center.

This happend to my son last night. He could not get any games to work. You ned to get a can of air the stuff you would use for the key boards for you computer to clean. Open the tray of the ps2 and spray air in there. There is dirt on the laser that reads the disk. If that does not work you need to open it to repair it. I have a link if you need to do that if this does not work. The caned air fixed my sons though it is 7 years old. If this does not work you need to open it to repair it. I have a link that will explain how to fix if you need just ask on here with this post Good Luck
it sounds like the laser is dirty or gone try cleaning the laser or you may have to replace it
if you do have to replace it you might as well replace it with one that plays copied games
also sony will repair the unit for you as its under warranty call them for info ive had mine replaced 3 times.
Have you ever gotten the games to work? Possibly the games you have are for the wrong region (region 1 is north america, region 2 is europe + australia, region 3 is asia). Each PS2 is set to work only with 1 region, and only the games for that region will work in the ps2. So, say you have game x and game y... If game x works in your ps2, and game y doesn't, it is possible game y is for the wrong region... You could try taking your stuff down to your local gamestop, and they might be able to help you determine what region your ps2 and games are.
What you probably have is a disc read error, if you don't want to get a new system first you can always open it and repair yourself but that voids the warranty but is voided after the 30th day, I have tried it a few times in the past and it works but is time consuming and if your not careful you can break it beyond use. But if you're brave read this article. http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/hardware/ps2.ars
Clean the LAsers Lens with Q-tip lightly dampened with Glass cleaner, then dry the lens. Try it see if that gets it going again.
If not your lasers lens and supporting frame is probably melting down. You will need a new laser.
