Question about Humax T800 TiVo 80-Hours Video Recorder

Daily calls Everyday around 2:00pm my tivo attempts to make it's daily call, and everyday it either knocks me off the internet or renders my phone useless untill the call is finished. Isn't it, first of all, supposed to make the call in the middle of the night? and second, shouldn't I still be able to use the phone line? Is there a setting I can change? or is this thing just a piece of junk?

TiVo-powered DVRs will attempt to make the daily call at approximately the same time of day as it was last able to connect successfully. This means that if you set up your DVR initially around 2 PM, or if it failed during an overnight call and retried during the day (and got through one day around 2), it will continue trying at that time every day. You are not able to use the phone line while it connects -- it uses the same type of modem that your computer uses to connect. The good news is that you can indeed reschedule the next attempt, but it's not exactly a setting you can change -- stay up late, and force it to connect manually overnight. If it completes normally, it will make the next attempt the next night at the same time, on its own.

You have posted your work around not the problem.
What activity is going on when you have to reset?
What have you tried to do to fix it?
Is it at the same time everyday?
Is your ISP's equipment working ok?
How long has this been going on?

I recommend letting it update daily as the threats are coming daily as well; if you insist, there is a menu option (run from an icon either in the Program Files\Norton Internet Security folder or by double-clicking the icon in the system notification area and clicking on Norton Antivirus, middle tab, 2nd group down. You can disable it completely if you want.
