Sony Trinitron kv32fs16 picture shrinks

The picture shrinks intermittently, mostly when the tv gets moved or bumped. It goes to the bottom of the screen and shows several different colored horizontal lines which then kind of flicker. After about a minute or two the picture eventually restores to normal. If the side of the TV gets bumped again it restores the normal picture. It seems to be worse of a problem when the back is on the TV and once the TV is on for awhile it turns on and off fine without the problem. All other functions work perfectly.

You have a bad solder connection in the vertical circuit. This will require you to resolder these bad connections before it blows out the vertical output IC or other parts in the circuit. Do this ASAP before you make a small repair into a large one. If you have no solid state printed circuit board experience, please play it safe and take the set into a pro to do this for you. This problem usually lies on the horizontal output transistor, try to check also for shorted diode. you can buy ftom any electronic parts dealer or radio shacks stores

Picture Flickering

The sony tuners have been known to get intermittent, it might be a bad ground where the tuner connects to the main chasis, If the problem is in the tuner itself it will be most difficult to resolve since the connections are so small and compacted together.

after it fails how many times does the red LED blink? check the board very closely for any cracked solder. and then check the main regulators. also look to see if you have any physically bad capacitors, they might look like they are exploding on the top.

Picture broken and shrinking

You need to change your vertical IC, along with some capacitors around the vertical IC. Capacitor with value 220UF, 10uf, 470uf and finally 1000uf. Doing this will fix the set. Total cost under $40
