Epson scanner cannot communicate

The printer/scanner is connected to my network, and will scan wirelessly to my computer if I use the control panel on the printer. But, I cannot access the scanner from the desktop icon. I get and error message saying it cannot communicate. I've checked my firewall, my ip address, tried uninstalling and reinstalling - no luck. Any suggestions? It prints fine wirelessly from my desktop, but it cannot communicate with the epson scan software so I have no control over the quality of my scan.

My solution was that Epson Scan was set to connect via network instead of local. (All was working fine, then it quit-something changed this setting) Try this, go to start, choose all programs, choose Epson folder, choose Epson Scan, choose Epson Scan Setting. In the pop up box set the connection to local or network, whichever is appropriate. Close the window and open photoshop and all works fine. It could be that your problem is the opposite of mine- I try switching this to the other setting even if the change is wrong, then switch it back to see if that works too.

Good Luck.

SOURCE: Epson 3490 Scanner not communicating properly with PC

The new PC was Vista and the CD that came with the scanner completed loading a driver without complaint. However, a new driver was needed for Vista. After downloading the new driver from Epson, uninstalling the old driver and installing the new driver, it worked.

SOURCE: Epson 3170 Photo scanner will not work

I don't know specifically what the solution is, but I just downloaded the user manual which has been missing and info from it might help. You might have the manual already, but here is a link to the manual (eighth item down), then go to page 62 and there are a lot of things to look at and consider. http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/support/supDetail.jsp?BV_UseBVCookie=yes&infoType=Doc&oid=14585

SOURCE: Soft ware problems

Try this from "Tom's Hardware" worked for me!

1) RIGHT-CLICK on the MY COMPUTER icon and click on PROPERTIES.
2) Select the HARDWARE tab, then the DEVICE MANAGER button.
3) Remove the Epson Scanner from under IMAGING DEVICE and/or UNKNOWN and/or
OTHER DEVICES by RIGHT-CLICKING on it and clicking UNINSTALL.
4) Disconnect the USB cable and close all open windows.
5) Click on START, and CONTROL PANELS.
6) Double-click on ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. Highlight EPSON SCAN and click on
CHANGE/REMOVE.

7) Go to START, SEARCH, and ALL FILES AND FOLDERS. Select Advanced option
and ensure there is a checkmark next to SEARCH HIDDEN FILES and FOLDERS.
8)Search for files where all or part of the file named is OEM*.* and a word
or phrase in the file contains EPSON. Search location should be set to
C:\WINDOWS\INF or C:\WINNT\INF.
9) Delete all files that are found if this is your only Epson product. If
you have another Epson product, you will want to open each individual file
and determine which files pertain to your scanner, and then delete only
those.
10)Go to START, SEARCH, and ALL FILES AND FOLDERS. Search for files where
all or part of the file named twain.log . Search location should be set to
C:\. Please delete the twain.log file and repeat the process for
twain001.mtx, twunk001.mtx and twunk002.mtx. and epfb5 and escndv

Now we need to remove specific references to the product in the registry:

1. Click on START and then RUN.
2. In the Run window type in REGEDIT.
3. In the upper menu bar click on FILE, then EXPORT.
4. In the window that comes up, SAVE IN should be set to DESKTOP.
5. In the FILE NAME section at the bottom of the window type in REGBACKUP.
6. EXPORT RANGE should have a dot next to ALL.
7. Click on SAVE.
8. Look in the column on the left and Click on the "+" sign next to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
9. Click on the "+" sign next to SOFTWARE
10. Click on the "+" sign next to Epson
11. Look for a folder name EPSON SCAN or epson twain . Right click on it
and Delete it (if you don't see it, then don't worry about it).
12. If you see a reference to your Epson product model, right click and
delete it.
13. Click on the "-" signs next to EPSON, SOFTWARE, HKEY_CURRENT_USER to
close up this branch.
14. Click on the "+" sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
15. Click on the "+" sign next to SOFTWARE
16. Click on the "+" sign next to Epson
17. Look for a folder name EPSON SCAN or epson twain , Right click on it
and Delete it (if you don't see it, then don't worry about it).
18. If you see a reference to your Epson product model, right click and
delete it.
19. Click on the "-" signs next to EPSON, SOFTWARE, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to
close up this branch.

DOWNLOAD

Please follow the steps below to download and install your scanner in XP:
1. Go to the website http://support.epson.com
2. Under the SCANNERS heading select PERFECTION SERIES and then your
scanner model.
3. Under the Drivers & Downloads section select Windows. Download the most
current version of the Scanner Driver for your Windows operating system to
your DESKTOP.

Reinstall

1) Double Click on the Epson1****.exe file that you downloaded to your
DESKTOP.
2) Click OK, Unzip, and then OK again.
3) The installer will copy the files to the system. Click on FINISH when
prompted.
4) Connect the USB cable to a different usb port on the computer. Windows
will tell you new hardware is found and complete the install.
5) If a message appears indicating THE SCANNER HAS NOT PASSED WINDOWS LOGO
TESTING, click CONTINUE ANYWAY. Then click FINISH.
6) Your scanner is now ready to use

Communications error between Windows 8.1 computer and Artisan 835 scanner

If you are getting a 'carriage jam' error as soon as you turn on your Epson printer with no tasks in progress, then check for any piece of paper stuck in the carriage. Remove the paper carefully. If the paper tears, part of it might remain inside the paper path and damage the product.

Fix 'Carriage Jam' : Open Door, clear carriage jam,
and then press OK to continue' error message
Turn off the printer and open it to see where the paper is stuck.
Manually move the carriage toward the opposite side.
Check the paper path and remove any piece of paper or any other object that is stuck in the path.
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

I have bought an Epson Artisan 835 printer & can't get it to connect wirelessly to a Billion Router (BiPAC 7300G).This router is connected wirelessly to my i-Mac. I currently have the printer...

1) Please check your router setup whether it does not allow Wireless devices to ping against each other;
2) If it does not allow to ping (communicate) with each other, please disable it first.
3) Then please check your Epson wireless setup whether the DHCP function is enabled; if not, please enable it;
4) Please also input your network gateway, sub-net mask correctly into the Epson printer, otherwise the wireless communication with your network will not work.
5) Then switch off your printer and turn on again to recognize the new settings; and it should work

I'm trying to scan a photo using my Epson stylus SX425W via wireless to my PC. I've done this before without any problems, but today for some reason i'm getting "communication error W61" and it...

We've just had the same problem, it seemed to have something to do with a kind of Epson drive, within 'my computer' folder, if you can see said 'Epson drive' within my computer, delete/remove it.
We then had to uninstall every Epson orientated software file within uninstall programs in the control panel, and then re-install the software for the printer.
It did take us quite a while to figure it out, but our printer/laptop/internet wifi network now seems to work, bug free!!
Good luck!!

Will not scan. Error C:\ProgramFilesEPSON\escndv\es006c is displayed. Shows also ESCNDV.Exe

Do a complete reinstall.
1. Click Start, go to Control Panel, click System.
2. Click Hardware > Device Manager (XP). Click Device Manager (Vista and 7)
3. Look for Imaging Devices, right click on your Epson scanner and click uninstall.
4. Disconnect the usb cable from the printer.
5. Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs (XP) Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features (Vista and 7)
6. Look for Epson Scan and click Change/Remove/Uninstall.
7. Restart your computer.
8. Download the SCANNER software from the Epson website. If you have the disc, you can also run it.
9. Connect the usb cable back to the printer and computer.
10. Try scanning.
If that does not resolve your issue, you might need to remove Epson Scan from the Registry and reinstall the software again.

Im trying to scan and the canon says: "set the pc to start scan"...? Nothing pops up on the computer, what do i need to do?

I'm using an MG5220 and got this same message. Here's how I fixed it.

On the printer control panel press the soft key to select the scan function. Then hit the soft key to select Save/Forward. Then select Foward scanned data to a PC. On the next screen make sure to select the appropriate PC. In my case I'm connected wireless but the selection was set to USB connection and that's why I was getting the error noted above. When I picked the PC that is connected wirelessly everything worked fine again.

Can not get scanning to work over a wireless/network

The ip address for you scanner is already set. If you are able to print to it over the network than you will be able to scan from it over the network. The trick is that you will need to initiate the scan from your pc and not from the scanner. Look in your program files and find epson scan. there you will find epson scan setings. open this up and select a scanner, the cx11nf. Tell it that it is a network scanner and allow the program to find the scanner. Once found, you will need to test it. If you get full communication back from the scanner than you are connected and can then use epson scan to scan your documents and pictures to file.
If you cant find epson scan than you have not loaded the program and will need to reload the program.
