You have more than likely a dead audio output ic gone faulty.look into radio on its back you will see the audio ic on the upper righthand side of radio.the heatsink is bolted onto the case with a plastic screw . its in a single inline package type.

plug the external speaker into your PA jack and select the PA switch. If PA works then the audio chip is good. The cobra 29 must have a mic plugged in to get receive audio, You may have a broken wire at the mic connector.

NOT RECEVING OR TRANSMITING

Can you see the s-mete if it has one moving up and down on any channel? Do you hear any audio at all? could be a couple of things. Bad mic switch or mic cable, bad antenna or coax, bad audio amp. To check the audio amp plug in a speaker to the PA jack, put the PA switch on PA then press the mic to talk. If it works the audio is fine the mic is good and the mic cable is good. Noiw plug the speaker into the speaker jack, do you hear anything? If not then your antenna or coax has a problem, fix or replace antenna or coax.

Got a connex 3300HP has a ranger board and chipset won't modulate recieves fine keys up relay clicks needle doesn't move no voice either cant find schematics

You may have a dead meter.
Modulation is audio's affect on swing wattage or pep. Notice that needle moving more with your voice.
Dead key or carrier wattage is without your voice enhancing the power only with mic keyed.
I can only assume that the chipset you are referring to is an ic chip audio or pll which must be working if you are receiving audio.
Check your mic cord................ transmit and modulation and even your receive volume can be affected by the cord/mic plug solder joints or broken wires here.

No Modulation!!

Hi,

Most modulation problem could be traced to:
1. mic or the cable and/or the mic connector;
2. AMC (amplitude modulation control) - it's a single transistor that regulates modulation and occasionally has been known to clamped on the mic audio;
3. the AM/SSB switch - spraying with contact cleaner is a temporary remedy; and/or
4. audio amp - however if your receive audio is good, then this does not apply.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Without a model number, I can't be more specific as to component(s) or PCB location but pls post back for any developments (or lack thereof) or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kindest regards.

Just a thought from Mechanic

Well, first your pa does not go thru your audio chip,take the cover off,with the radio circuit board down, the audio chip is on the right side-rail,the chip close to you, now turn it over and inspect it for cold solder joints,if you need to replace it you have to heat sink it with heat sink silicone, to remove it you need wire wick,it soaks up the solder,make sure you clean the old off with a paper towel,use 60-40 rosin core solder........hope this helps.....
