The SB-800 is a wonderful flash, had a few used them on many shoots. The mode button could be internally stuck not making it connection, or perhaps broken, You could take it apart see if there is some type of obstruction and the like under the button. Or send it to a service technician. The SB-800 continue commanding a high price, getting it fixed is to me well worth the cost.
The Machine has entered Descaling Mode. To exit, wait until all greens are flashing then hold all three buttons down at same time for about 3 seconds until machine bleeps. It should then perform as normal.
First, press the PROG button. Now it's in PROGRAM mode. While the light is flashing, use the HOUR and MINUTES button to set the time you want the machine to fire up and start brewing. When you're done, just press no buttons for a few seconds till the light stops flashing. That ends program mode, and you're all set.
Had the same problem. I ended up taking it apart and cleaning the knobs. Wasn't to hard to do. Remove a dozen or so screws. Unplug the control board and remove it. Wash and dry all of the knobs and re-assemble. Worked great since.
