I have a very new (3-4 months) Bravos steam dryer made by Maytag. The other day, I tried to use it and the START button is blinking and the dryer will not run. All the other displays seem to be working but, it just beeps when I push START. I've run through every posibility I can think of to get it to work but, nothing. Any ideas? It seems like a simple control panel / setting issue but, Maytag cannot tell me anything about this problem (no surprise there) and keeps telling me (I've called a few times, never hurts, somebody may know more than the usual phone jockey) to get an appliance repair technician. However, the warranty does not cover calls to "instruct you how to use your major appliance." I have a bad feeling about calling in the repair tech. and want to learn more first.
Manual says it could be a number of things, and you should have a copy of the manual since you've only had the dryer 3-4 months. If not, go to the Maytag website and download.
Some things to check -
1) Press Start/Cancel if dryer was stopped in a middle of the operating cycle.
2) Check that one of the two breakers has not tripped or fuses blown (if an electric dryer) in your breaker panel.
Please reply the flashing code number so that I may can help you further.
Just some clarification as I try to help you determine the problem - sorry that I did not understand of some of the things you had already tried.
1) You indicate the drum light is on - is that with the door open, and closed? Can you tell the drum light is on with the door closed?
2) Have you tried to manually push the switch in until it clicks, then press the "Start" button? The clicking sound is no guarantee the door switch is working properly. I would expect at least the drum light would go off when the switch "clicks" as though the door were closed.
3) I am leaning toward it being a bad controller board too. But I would think it is still covered by Warranty and the repair should be at no charge to you.
4) Failures such as this are better to occur during a Warranty, than for the failure to occur after the Warranty. And while it's upsetting that you got a failed one (if you did), please realize that there are no guarantees, only Warranties, and how the manufacturer responds is a sign of their commitment to make you happy. You've not had good success at getting Maytag to respond, but maybe it's the way you've presented the issue that makes them cautious or hesitant in proceeding. I know I am, because of the rating already given to someone who is trying to understand what the symptoms are and what has already been tried to attempt repair.
If the drum light remains on with the door closed, I would be real suspect that the door switch has failed. Please reply if you've attempted what I asked in #2 above, and let me know the outcome.

Hi,
There can be many reasons why your dryer will not start or turn...
The most common causes are the belt breaking or jumping off, or the motor going bad...
Here are a couple of tips that I wrote will help you to figure out why your dryer will not run...

I have already done all that you have suggested and more. I have even disconnected the dryer from the vent, in case cold air from outside had lowered the temperature of the dryer below the 45 degrees F that the manual indicates it will not run. There is no flashing code. The only light flashing is the one on the START button. I suspect that it is behaving as though the dryer door were open (I cannot recall if the start light would blink when it was) and when I unplug the dryer and then plug it back in, the drum light comes on. However, the dryer is just too new for the door switch to have failed. I can push the switch manually and hear it click, only other thing would be the board is having problems but, again, the dryer is brand new. If it has broken already, well... I will never buy a Maytag again, if that is the case.
I have the same problem with my new, one-day old electric 800VU Maytag dryer. My drum light does not light when I open the door...it does when I hit the switch on the display. But I cannot override any settings and my laundry is not drying. The load stops after a few minutes and the start light starts blinking. Is this a bad drum light switch already?
