It will be a spring loaded button yes,,,if you cut any wires make sure you tape them up with some electrical tape,,until you can get it repaired or replaced,,P.S. always leave enough wire for re-connection.

If your referring to the rear brake lights, it can be either a switch or a relay. The switch is located on or near the brake pedal, the relays are located under the hood in a black rectangle compartment. If your referring to dashboard light, I would check for a stuck parking brake.
You may have a defective door switch and this keeps the displays on. Try opening the passenger front door and see if it goes out if it does the door switch must be replaced.
Is it a lift back or window and tail gate? Either way, there is a little hole on the inside for the escape hatch. Take a small pin, wire, coat hanger, push it straight in, it should pop the window, door, whichever, might be a small button over the hole, that way you can get the door lock fixed without smashing the lock off. I never tried mine , but I know all cars have them now. Check it out.
Check the switch plunger. If it is broken and does not depress when the door is closed, it will continue to act like it's open. Replace the switch if broken or faulty.
