When trying to install the dell 720 printer, it appears to install and then when you try to print something, it says unable to communicate. I have checked the usb cord and took out the power and rebooted the computer. The printer works fine on another computer
I have to make some assumptions here, let me know if I'm wrong. I assume you're using Windows Xp (Pro or Home). If so, disconnect the printer from the computer. Go to the Control Panel/Add Remove Programs. Uninstall the Dell printer. Go to the Control Panel/Printers and Faxes On Menu bar, click on File come down to Server Properties. in box that pops up click on Drivers/ Click on the Dell printer, click on Remove. Go to: http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=PRN_INKJET_720&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid= Download the latest driver for your Operating System to a location on your computer so that you know where to find it. Reboot your computer. Go to the downloaded driver. Double click on it. Follow the directions on the screen. It will let you know when you need to connect the printer to the computer again. That SHOULD do it. If it does not, please let me know before you rate this solution. I will try to provide additional information. Ed

If the installation screen does not appear:
In Windows 2000, double-click My Computer from your desktop.

My printer stopped working, so I ewnt through the troubleshooting, which advised me to check the cable, unplug the printer, and then eventually uninstall the printer. Before I uninstalled it, it was sayign the printer could not connect to the computer. When I uninstalled the program, it will no longer read my Dell re-install CD rom, or it says that the printer spooler device is not there.
What do I do?
My computer is a Dell Inspiron laptop with Vista. I can't get the 720 printer to communicate with it. I just uninstalled all the drivers and updates I previously tried.
