Question about Dell 810 All-In-One InkJet Printer
I've been using this printer everyday for 2 weeks when it was taken out of the box. This morning I booted up, and tried to print out a shipping label. When I hooked up the USB cord, it told me that it had malfunctioned, and no matter what I've done, it won't recognize the printer. So far I've... -plugged it into another port -tried a new cable -restarted -uninstalled the printer -attempted to reinstall the printer (but won't let me because it won't recognize it) -checked to make sure the printer is indeed trying to recognize it as a USB device (it was) Any ideas?
First, check to see that you can make a copy. If you cannot you have a physical problem with the unit that we will have to address. If you can make a copy: Disconnect the printer from the computer Go to the Control Panel/Add Remove programs Remove the Dell printer program Go to the Control Panel/Printer and Faxes Click on File come down to Server Properties In the box that pops up go to Drivers Click on the Dell printer - click on REMOVE Reboot your computer Re-install the printer driver from the CD - It will let you know when it wants you to reconnect the printer. If that does not take care of it, PLEASE let me know before you rate this solution. Ed

A
quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the
printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your
computer. Reboot your pc. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source
to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Then try
to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection.
If
that doesn't help, try the steps below:
1.
Disconnect the printer from your computer.
2.
Rebrick (pull out power supply, black box where the
power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30
seconds).
2.
On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
3.
Delete the Lexmark print object.
4.
Reboot your pc.
5.
When your pc turns on, reconnect the printer.
6.
Wait until your pc fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control
Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the
list, then try to print again.
You
may also try to update your printer driver by visiting the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/9xPHL4.
Select your operating system, download and execute the file.
If the problem continues, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.

I actually got it to work last night - but only on one of my USB ports. Apparently this is a really common problem when you're plugging & unplugging your USB devices a lot (whoda known?).
I went into safe mode, and deleted the USB port root hubs & controllers, then rebooted.
I added a new string in the registry, and let my computer sit for 30 min. w/o battery.
Then I rebooted, reinstalled the printer... and it worked.
Thanks for your reply, though!
I didn't rate your solution, and it still gives me the option to rate it. And I thanked you for your help in my previous comment. There's no need to be rude.
