Battery corrosion I had not used my camera in about 2 months and never thought of taking out the batteries. When I tried to use it,,,I thought it just needed new batteries because it was turning on for a few seconds then shutting itself off. I opened the battery door and found that the batteries were super corroded. I was advised to use elecrical contact cleaner to clean up the corrosion and after doing so,,,it still will only turn on for maybe a couple seconds and then shuts off. What more can I do to salvage this camera?

Carry on cleaning the contacts -perhaps a little abrasive cleaning with a pencil eraser- may do it.

Camera switches off as soon as it's turned on. Batteries are fully charged. Camera has not been used for seven months. What could be wrong?

Hi,

If you have not used your camera for few months the problem may be due to weak/worn out batteries or corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try solution before you do anything else:

Step1: Remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper).

Step2: Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera. This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, your batteries may need to be replaced, or the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

Thank you !!

Batteries tend to deteriorate and leak over time, especially if left in a camera when it's not used for several months. Your problem may be due to corrosion on the battery contacts inside the camera which can prevent the full power of the batteries from flowing into the camera. Try this free fix before you do anything else: remove the batteries and wipe the camera contacts firmly with a dry cloth (heavy corrosion may require cleaning with a wire brush, steel wool, or sandpaper). Remove any residue that may have fallen into the battery compartment during cleaning, then wipe both ends of the batteries and place them back in the camera and give them a full charge (assuming that you are using rechargeable batteries). This cleaning clears the problem about 90% of the time. If it doesn't work for you, the camera may have a problem that requires professional repair.

Batery problem

This usually occurs when the camera is exposed to water, sweat, high humidity or if you had leaky alkaline batteries. You have 2 choices to try. 1 take the camera apart and use an old toothbrush with WD40 and scrub the circiut board, you can inspect the battery compartment to see if you have corrosion from leaky batteries and do the above to fix. 2 use the camera as is and remove the batteries after each use.

Fujifilm S3100 won't power on

I'm not familiar w/ the S3100 but do you see any corrosion in the battery terminals? These camers don't usually just quit working. If the terminals are clean, what battery are you using? How many mA or milliAmpere rating? These are usually indicated on the rechargable battery's sides. There are some new battery in the market. The eveready silver colored battery. I forgot the name. It is one notch above the regular alkaline battery. Let me know if this helps.
