Was there a paper jam or something happen just prior to the code? Was it moved bumped or dropped?

Make sure all your doors have the acuator fingers still prtruding, one may be broken and not closing the safety interlock.

Is the presser foot down?

There should be an adjustment somewhere on the top of the sewing machine, above the presser foot where you can adjust the pressure of the presser foot - left for less and right for more.

Is the fabric under the presser foot when you begin sewing?
