I just bought the 320 gb wd western digital my book premium addition. It is compatible with the vista. What I do not understand is, does it backup automatically or is there some sort of software that I should seeing? I am not sure if it is doing anything. I have the fire wire and the usb plugged in and the light is on. Da! It did not come with a manual. Could cha give me some info on it.
Google is your friend...
I found the WD website and browsed for the model you said. I found the installation guide and looked it over. You might want to do the same.
You can also contact the company via the website to either download the software or order it from them

Connect the MyBook to a different desktop computer.
If it is not recognized, then the MyBook definitely has a problem.
Exercise the warranty to get it repaired/replaced,
or check W.D.'s "Customer Loyalty" program -- buy a new W.D. drive through W.D.'s web-site, and get a discount.
It is "dead". If it is still under warranty (check 'www.wdc.com' for details), then Western Digital will replace it. If not, check their web-site, for their "Customer Loyalty Program", i.e., since you bought one W.D. disk-drive, you can get a discount on buying another W.D. disk-drive, if you order online from W.D.'s web-site.
Yes. The case doesn't care what size the drive is. The computer is just asking for the USB driver for the case. Check the WD site for the driver for the model of MyBook that you have. That should cover it.
