A couple of days ago I opened my computer and an error message appeared - "A Disk Read Error Occured. Press CTRL ALT DEL to restart" I did that and it worked fine. Now I opened it again and it happened again. I am using my laptop to write this message and I hope that someone can help me.

Re:
This is a sign that either you hard drive is about to fail, or there is a corrupt sector on it.
Next time you boot up the pc go to my computer, right click and explore, then right click on the 'C' drive and select properties, then at the tools tab at the top of the window select error checking and click check now.
The pc will probably need to restart to do the check.
Back up any important docs as it may be aboit to fail.

Sorry to hear your having issues installing the OS.
There is two problems your facing one is the disk is so scratched that the system can not read the disk or the hard drive has bad sectors or clusters which are failing when being written to.
You have two options to fix this one is to make sure the cd is clean an or replace your hard drive.
General disk read error message tend to be from hard drive cylinder's.
When the computer cannot detect the hard disk or a boot disk then
you get this error message. Please click on this link to determine the fault and
solution to this problem :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r6244569-no_bootable_device
load optimal or fail save setting then check if it eliminates the problem if it didn't work. reinstall the ide cable of your hard disk check if it eliminates the problem if it also didn't work back up your hard drive for important file, delete and create hard disk file system, partition and reformat your hard drive if this also didnt work replace your hard disk.
WEll i don't know how they fixed it before but if you get a disc read error then it's a bad hard drive. They may have gotten it to read again but it's still a bad hard drive and needs to be replaced and a new one put in. Don't know if they charged you for a bad hard drive before but it doesn't sound like they replaced it. Get a new drive and re-install your operating system and it should be fine.
Since the bios hard drive test passed , ujr hard drive is ok and mostly all ur data is ok . Only windows went corrupt (normally it doest when u turn off that way ) reinstall it dont use the recovery disks , but use a windows installation cd to re-install windows , but take care that when u install ,install on a different partition and remember to take the option leave the current partition intact without changes , so that none of ur data is disturbed.
