The LCD display needs to be replaced. It has kind-of-a dull yellow tint. I guess you tried changing the brightness, contrast, etc.

The display is too dim which i can slightly see. i think its the back light problem.

Look at the DC filter caps in the power supply, look for the one with leaking/bulging tops.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

LCD is dull....

Try to connect the machine to an external monitor and see if display is ok or not.
Also, try updating the video driver and check whether you have connected the LCD correctly to the laptop.

Philips LCD Screen no display

Sounds like either your video is out on your computer or the monitor is bad. Does the monitor work on other computers? Will another monitor work on your computer? This is the only way to figure out if it is the monitor or the video card.

Picture is not centered on monitor leaving a 2 1/2" black border on Philips LCD

I have a Philips 30 inch LCD and solved the problem by using the circular arrow button on the TV remote. Pointing it at the TV and clicking "right" (3 o'clock on the button), the picture moved right. Same thing on for "left". Worked for me.
