Install and run the Device Manager software from the product CD.

Select the Repair/Restore option, and follow the on-screen prompts.

If this doesn't work, it may be that the hard disk has packed up.

Hi mizzdramapri,

I would attempt a Repair, which will update the firmware and restore the unit to factory settings.

For more information on this product, including FAQ's and manuals, visit: http://ow.ly/6j8Gd.

Hope this helps - if so, let me know by rating this solution!

Here are instructions for the Repair:

IMPORTANT: Please back up data in the player before performing a repair.
  1. When your player is locked up or seems dead, you may connect to your PC to repair the device with the Device Manager.
  2. Launch Philips Device Manager at Start > Programs > Philips Digital Audio Player > SA2xxx > Philips SA2xxx Device Manager on your PC.
  3. Connect your player to the PC.
  4. Device Manager should acknowledge your player and automatically go into recovery mode.
  5. Follow the instructions given by Device Manager to proceed.
  6. After the player has been repaired, click OK and disconnect your PC.
  7. The player is ready for use again after restart.

HELP ME PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(

You should download and istall the Device Manager sofware from here:
http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/s/sa5285_02/sa5285_02_pal_eng.exe

After that run Device Manager and connect your player via USB. Device Manager should say, that your player reported an error and would you like to repair it. Press "yes" to start repair.

If the Device Manager doesn't give you the option to repair, you should turn off the player and connect it by pressing the volume up (+) button. This will turn on the automatic repair mode. After that, everything goes as I've written before.

Hope that I could helped!

It Bricked itself

Recovery Mode for Philips' GoGear
Open the Philips Device Manager (Start à All Programs à Philips Digital Audio Player à SAXXX à Philips Device Manager) and click on the “Repair” tab.  Then click on the “Repair” button to start the repair process.  Most of the time, when your player is in that state, the Device Manager will not recognize that your GoGear is plugged in.  If this is the case: Disconnect the player from the PC, and make sure the mp3 player is turned off. Hold in the volume + button on the mp3 player, and reconnect the player to your pc while holding in the volume + button. Continue holding the volume + for 10-15 seconds until a "Found New Hardware Wizard" pops up. It should recover your device if there isn't anything internally wrong with the player. Warning: this procedure will result in your songs being erased off the player, so they will have to be reloaded.

Computer not detecting

Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

THEN, do the "Repair" in the Philips Device Manager

Does not turn on properly

Firmware manager should solve this problem.

  1. First Make sure that you have your PC connected to the internet, as the firmware manager will download the firmware from the firmware server, it is necessary that you have the PC online during the entire the process.
  2. Run the application on your PC at Start->Programs->Philips Firmware Manager->Philips Firmware Manger.
  3. Connect the GoGear player with the PC in normal mode. Switch on the player.
  4. Firmware Manager will start the upgrade process after the player is detected.
  5. Enter the serial number of your device. You can find the serial number as a 14 digital code printed on the sticker near the USB connector of the device e.g. SFxxxxxxxxxxxx and then click NEXT to proceed.
  6. Click the START button, select the firmware and click OK.
  7. The upgrade process will continue to download firmware.
  8. Once the upgrade process is completed, click FINISH to close the application.
  9. You may now disconnect the GoGear Player from your computer.

Player Problem, Connect to PC, Start Device Manager

Sounds like one or more system files have been deleted or corrupted on the player, possibly by formatting the player from windows.

Install and run the Philips Device Manager and select the Repair / Restore option. Follow the on-screen prompts.

This will format the device and re-load the system files.

ALL FILES WILL BE DELETED FROM THE DEVICE. Back up files before restoring.

Phillips Go Gear 6GB

The Phillips website has a solution for this:
Go to the FAQ for this mp3 player. It'll tell you to install the Device Manger which will repair the problem. I've done this, however, the Device Manager claims my mp3 Player is not connected.

Try this yourself, you might have better luck.
