I have the 209 and the red light comes on showing power is coming to the unit but it will not turn on when I press the power button. It just did this one day out of the blue. We went to put a movie on and it wouldn't turn on. I have unplugged it for a month and plugged it back in same thing. Red light comes on but won't turn on. I opened it up to see if something might be loose but all the cables and wires are intact. What can I do?
Just trash it. Or you can take it a part piece by piece. That's wat I did.
First time I buy Coby (just 'cause is small). I tried the instructions to unlock it, given to me in the store and didn't work. Next day, I tried to play a DVD from matching region and DVD didn't even read it. Tried CD, nothing. That brick is just a piece of ****. It's a rip off and 'cause is chep the manufacturers seem to feel they have the right to steal your money just like that.
There is no solution but to buy a better player!!! Axion and Phillips have done well for me as International players, and has JWIN.
We have exact same issue. My husband called Coby. They said if the red light is on & won't go green, the system is junk. Can return to the store or them. We are off to buy a new player and it won't be a Coby!

The light goes green momentarily, the TV screen displays the Coby logo and says "loading", then the light turns red, the image on the monitor turns to a black screen.
I have used this item about 7 times.
I have the DVD-209 player and my problem is the same as the other people's post. Power is reaching the unit but it will not play. I will try to get a replacement through the manufacturer. In the meantime, if anyone finds a better solution, please let us all know.
