It is a great chance Jeff that your Power Supply Board (specially the FlyBack) could not hold the voltage requirement to let your TV set on.
If you love your TV set, I'll suggest to keep it and repair it.
Probably you would have to replace the FlyBack and then check out if the TV stays on. This will cost you from $75.00 to $95.00, but it will not guarantee that it will stay on. I really suggest you to replace the main power board (from $175.00 to $250.00 - with core exchange). It is something you can do on your own and I'll recommend you to check on the following site (my favorite to buy parts, service is also ok):

YOU need to have the original Pioneer remote to do this--I do not understand if someone fixed and you had the remote why he did not adjust it?
With the Pioneer remote you go into the customer menu and adjust convergence--most also have a TECH menu for this but you still need the remote and a code to get into this--REMOTES FOR THESE SETS ARE HARD TO FIND AND EXPENSIVE.
Let me know if you have questions--I am here to help.

it is the power supply board an know problem with pioneer. If you have any soldering experience you can remove the powersupply board and resolder the tracks and as many parts as you can. I had the same problem and not the power supply works great. You will soon have other problems like pic and sound going intermittant where you have to hit the tv to get it back on. more solder problems on video main board. best of luck
yes it is worth fixing.if you r getting it repaired for the first time.
but you will have to wait for some long time to get it repaired as the tv is very old its very difficult to get the parts for reparing it.
the problem what you r facing is the problem of the convergence in your main board of the tv.
it has to be repaired.
i will advise you to get it repaired as it will work.
