Two computers sharing the above connected via wire ethernet after scheduled backup operations one computer shows GREEN status in system tray icon ( successful) while other computer shows RED status in system tray (unsuccessful). In both cases the backup operation was successful I cannot find any way to get the icon to show that the backup was successful on the one that shows RED. I'm running VISTA Ultimate on the computer showing correctly and Window XP Pro on the one showing unsuccessful. Any idea's anyone???

Try mapping that drive as a network share under windows XP. This is done from "MY Computer" Map network drive. The set up your backups to back up the network drive you have created. If that does not do it then there is a contention between vista and xp as to the owner of the drive. Making the drive a mapped network drive should resolve this as neither should have ownership. Thats my best quess without knowing in detail your network setup.

My problem is that I have a laptop hard drive, that's having issues. I can open my files, and I can't open a USB folder to back up the files. What should I do?

Enable "File and Print Sharing" on your Windows system.
Then, "share" your 'My Documents' folder.
Use an Ethernet cable to connect your computer to any router.
Take another computer, and another Ethernet cable, to connect this second computer to the same router.
Make sure that both computers are in the same Windows "workgroup".
On the second computer, "browse" the local network.
You should see your laptop computer, and the "shared" folder that it is offering.
Copy everything, over the network, from that folder onto the second computer.
Backup the files to a DVD-recordable disk, or to an external storage-device.

I got into my Coolmax external hard drive on my computer, via internet cable and router. I got into the hard dirve OK. I am trying to get another 2nd computer recognized on the hard drive. The Coolmax...

Indeed, it sounds like a sharing problem. But, based on your explanation, I'm not sure what your issue is as your terminology is not standardized.
Example: you said, "I am trying to get another 2nd computer recognized on the hard drive." What would be more accurate, is that you are trying to get the 2nd computer to recognize the 1st computer so you can access the 2nd computer's hard drive.

On the other hand, you said the hard drive uses a network interface, and you have it connected to the router. So does it have some kind of web based interface? No, if what I read about it says that it uses USB 2.0 and eSATA, which means it is directly connected to the 1st computer, and so it would have to be shared to the 2nd computer via the 1st computer.

I also note you don't specify any operating system, which is absolutely required. Because, for example: Windows 10 has sharing problems; I'm a professional, and I haven't bothered till they fix it.

You said: "I registered the ID and password", which does sound like you're using Windows to set up a share. But then you say, "Did Run //storage/person" which means nothing to me. As that's not any way to set up a share that I'm aware of. (Maybe I'll learn something ;-)) And then you say, "2nd computer's hard drive was not recognized" and that's confusing, because I thought you were trying to see the Coolmax which is on the 1st computer, right? Or is it on the 2nd computer. So it's really not clear what you're doing, or what you think you're trying to do. If you clear this up, I'd be happy to see what I could do to help.

How can I connect my alltel internet card to my wii system

Unfortunately you cannot insert your USB modem into your Wii and have it recognized. Your Wii does not have the ability to operate plug and play devices in the way that your lap top does. The Wii needs to be hooked up to a LAN (local area network) via a wireless G connection from a wireless router or wireless capable modem, or hard wired to a modem or router with an ethernet cable (looks like a big phone wire).

There is a way to share your lap tops internet connection using an ethernet switch (depending on your operating system). If this is an option that you wish to explore and you have the necessary hardware, re-post asking how to set up a shared internet connection using a computer as a residential gateway. Depending on your operating system this can be done quite easily. You will need a computer with an internet connection (which you have), a 10/100 Ethernet switch, and two Ethernet cables. A switch is relatively inexpensive and the wires are as well.

I hope that this helps you with your problem.

Good Luck!

Sharing of internet connection

You need to purchase a router and two network cables to connect the computers. If your computers do not have ethernet connections then you need a wireless router and two wireless network adapters for the computer. II recommend the Linksys W300N or similar for the router and the Linksys WUSB300N or similar for the network card. There are very simple set up instruction with the router and cards.

WD Hard Drive Not Detecting

Yes, this can be done via the user web interface, by typing in mybookworld or wdstorage into the web browser and the shared storage manager should come up. If you go to general setup there should be an option to update network settings.

Unable to see Shared Storage Drive II on EasyManage via Wireless

Just got a Maxtor Share II drive and absolutely love it. Setting it up was a pain especially when the drive didn't remember the Administrators password.
Here's what I think the problem may be

1-Your router is not assigning an IP address to the drive
2-Make sure your router is configured to DHCP IP configuration not Static.
3-Before trying to use the drive make sure to install the Software/Drivers first.
Other suggestions

This may or may not apply to you. I got my Maxtor drive on 4-07-08 and from previous experiences with other computer products, ie, windows software, printer drivers, etc. The manufacturer in order to rush things out the cd software that comes with the product is not the final version and most likely the software already has an update on the manufacturer’s web site so it’s always good to check before committing to what you get on the CD. So sure enough the BIOS for my Maxtor Share II 500Gig hard drive was already old. I downloaded the new version upgraded the BIOS and my drive is working great. I hope this suggestions help. Enjoy your drive. Alfredo.

Windows repeats 'new hardware found' when I attch my maxstor One touch II

The reason is simple, your Maxtor drive "does not" support Windows-ME. Since Windows-ME is not supported by your Maxtor drive the drivers dont get resolved and will never get installed. FYI - Windows-ME is almost 10 years old. What makes you think Maxtor will support Windows-ME?
