Is the computer new? If it is, send it back to where it came from for a repair.

If it is not new and it has passed its warranty, then you may have to take the Basel of the screen and see if there are any sockets that are not connected properly. The problem with doing this, with SOME laptops, you have to take off the main cover off the laptop before you can take the Basel off the screen.

If you do need to take it apart, please touch something like a metal plug sockets screw or a unpainted radiator pip before you do this to get rid of any static you gave on you otherwise the is a chance of permanently damaging you computer

the connections inside laptops are usually just thin wires that go into sockets and the clips that secure the cables lift up and the cable can just be pulled out or inserted with ease. If you can open your laptop and check the connections, just firmly push them all in to make sure they are all connected properly

Good Luck

SOURCE: HP Pavillion zd8000 lines on monitor

To date, HP has refused to repair these defective laptops despite being fully aware that the problems do exist. The only real solution that I'm aware of is to write to the BBB (the one in California located near HP's Executive Offices). HP agreed to repair my laptop at no charge after I went this route. To the best of my knowledge, they replaced the display as I no longer have the vertical lines. It appears that they may have also reduced the processor speed as the computer runs much cooler than it ever did before HP made the repair. It's been several months since the repair was made and, so far, no problems whatsoever. Hopefully that will continue.

before you spend $200 for a new lcd screen; may I interject; Please test your computer by hooking it up to another monitor if you get the same result; place your computer in the freezer for about an hour then start it as this model of computer is famous for overheating the nvidia video chip also the tiny fluorescent tube called a cold cathode has beeb found to glow red when about to fail the cathode can be purchased onlin at: laptoppartsdirect.com or, e-bay almost always the only reason to replace you lcd is: breakage or, bad pixels.

There a multi colored lines across the entire screen how can i fix this? you can see the TV on.. behind these multi colored lines... very faintly.. please advise how this can be fixed.. chris trizano-...

Hello; Not much info given. Are the lines from top to bottom? , and does EVERY line go fully from top and bottom. If the lines don't go FULLY from top to bottom, you have a cracked LCD panel ( cost more than TV sold for ). If they all go fully from top to bottom, It can still be the LCD panel OR the LCD controller board ( much less expensive ) John

Nothing but multi colered lines verticly on the screen

Try this:
Turn it off.
Disconnect power cord and any other device attached to it.
Take battery out.
Without anything attached. Hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds.
Connect the power cord only.
Hold down F2 (while it's off)
Turn it on while holding down F2.
Let go of F2 when something comes out of the screen.
If multi colored lines still appears.
You have either defective LCD(screen) or video card.

Gateway laptop vertical dotted lines across the screen

Sounds like a problem with the LCD assembly or cable. You may want to reseat the LCD cable at the LCD end. It could be a loose internal connector in the LCD assembly.
